Restore local government democracy now!

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The debate over the configuration of the Nigerian federation and in particular, the level of autonomy  local governments should enjoy remains as lively as ever. Lawyers and politicians would in the foreseeable future continue to ponder the question on whether Nigeria is a two-tier or three-tier federation and the mode of relationship between the states and local governments. While that debate rages, the supremacy of democracy at the local government level as defined by Section 7 of the Constitution remains unwavering. It reads:  The system of local government by democratically elected local government councils is under this Constitution guaranteed; and accordingly, the Government of every State shall, subject to section 8 of this Constitution, ensure their existence under a Law which provides for the establishment, structure, composition, finance and functions of such councils. The fact of democracy being the norm at the local government level was uphe...

Fresh supremacy crisis brews among Obas

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J …As Olugbo says he’s most prominent; Olubadan vows to respond By Ola Ajayi Ibadan—There appears to be no end in sight to the supremacy battle among Yoruba obas as the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Obateru Akinruntan, who presides over a reconciliation committee he and others set up to facilitate unity among the monarchs, has said he remains the most prominent king in the zone. The monarch had recently been in the eye of the storm by assuming leadership role among the kings. His claims generated scathing criticisms. Oba Akinruntan, the Chairman, Yoruba Obas Conflicts Resolution Committee, had fruitlessly arranged peace meeting between the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who had been at each other’s throat over who actually was greater. This crisis lasted for years until Oba Sijuwade joined his ancestors. But, the enthronement of Oba Eniitan Ogunwusi as the new Ooni had extinguished all embers of discord and calmed a...

Are you ready for the rapture (Part 1)

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Mouka Lazarus 1Pet 4:7 says, “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer” There is no doubt that the end of all things is at hand. All that we are witnessing now is the last dispensation. Nothing in this world is showing evidence of producing new thing which is an indication that the world has come into its full circle when all things shall be swallowed up in an endless eternity. This reality should make us sober in all worldly matters, and make us to be earnest in our faith. The frame and temper of your mind should observe strict temperance and sobriety in the use of all worldly enjoyments. If you believe that rapture is at hand or you may soon die, you must be moderate in your expectations of what this world can furnish, and also in your desire for earthly good. If in the other hand you are expecting soon to see the Lord Jesus coming in the clouds of heaven, you must not fail to hate the things of this world. You sho...
