Sokoto State Govt, World Bank, earmark N9bn on environmental project

The State Environment Commissioner, Alhaji Bello Sifawa, disclosed this in Sokoto on Friday at a news briefing to mark Gov. Aminu Tambuwal’s two years in office. Sifawa said that the state government had paid its counterpart fund of one billion naira, while the World Bank’s contribution of eight billion was being awaited. He said:” The projects entail the rehabilitation and construction of earth dams in the state, namely, Lugu and Lambar Tureta earth dams, among others. “Lugu dam, established in 1953, which was destroyed by flood in 2010, would also be rehabilitated under the project. ” The dam has 1,200 hectares, comprising of 3,000 of irrigable land.” Sifawa said further that the project include the construction of main collector drainage and gutter, from Tudun Wada area to river Sokoto, in S...

Nasiru El-Rufa’i not to demolish the Kasuwar Barchi market in Kaduna until the determination of the case before the court. Bello ordered that all respondents to the case should stop “entering into and demolishing Kasuwar Barchi, pending the hearing and determination of the case.” The case was instituted by 16 persons, on behalf of stall owners and traders in Kasuwar Barchi, seeking to stop the governor from demolishing the market. Joined in the suit are the Attorney-General of Kaduna State and Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency as second and third respondents. Mechanic, 30,docked for alleged N60,000 motor part theft

Nnabadim, whose address is unknown, is facing a one-count charge of stealing. The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 21, at about 6.30 p. m. at NDL Company, Ota, Ogun. Gbesi said that the accused stole a Lexus Silencer valued at N60,000 belonging to one Johnson Iyanola. He said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O.Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Police pension scam: Absence of defense counsel stalls hearing

The defendants in the case are Esar Dangabar, Atiku Kigo, Ahmed Wada, Veronica Onyegbula, Sani Zira, Uzoma Attang and Christian Madubuke, who were alleged to have been involved in the scam. They were standing trial for complicity in the over N24 billion scam in the Police Pension Fund. The case before Justice Hussien Baba-Yusuf was thereafter adjourned due to a written letter by Fagbemi, counsel to the fourth defendant, Veronica Onyegbula asking for an adjournment. The court did not sit but all counsel in the matter were in court except Fagbemi and the matter was adjourned until June 12 for continuation of hearing in the trial-within-trial.
