Kachukwu’s bid to provide acceptable leadership for the party in the state was at the weekend running into troubled waters after a faction of the party categorised a new set of leadership with former members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, taking the ascendancy. Kachukwu had last week invited some leading party members in the state, including some who recently defected to the party from the PDP, to a meeting where a leadership council to direct the affairs of the party was expected to be instituted. Confirming the arrest, Commander of RRS, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said Onyinyechi was arrested last Wednesday, based on information over the sale of her baby to Mr. and Mrs. Ike Nwata. Onyinyechi allegedly connived with her mother, Mrs. Joy Osoneye, to conceal the pregnancy from her father, because of his strict position on having a child out of wedlock. It was gathered that Onyinyechi was admitted at Peninsula Hospital, Ikota, on Lekki-Ajah Expressway, where one Mrs. Glory Ehinmi, 35, delivered her of a baby boy on March 1. Although details of the story was sketchy at the time of going to press, the deputy governor’s aide, Police Sgt. Helen was said to have been shot dead at Abakpa-Nike axis of Enugu metropolis at about 10 pm on her way to her residence after official duty.
