Former military administrator of Akwa Ibom state and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, Bishop of Anglican Communion Calabar Diocese, Rt Rev Tunde Adeleye, Ibedaowei of Opokuma, Bayelsa State, HRM King Okpoitari Diongoli and others, who spoke to Vanguard, said it was indecent for Northern elders to also claim that the resources used to develop the country before the advent of oil were from the north. Maiduguri bomb blast: death toll rises to 15

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The University of Maiduguri Teaching (UMTH) says the death toll of Wednesday’s Boko Haram attack has risen to 15 following the death of two more victims. The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the university, Mr Bashir Tahir, told newsmen in Maiduguri on Thursday. Tahir said that 30 people were brought to the hospital. He said that one of the patient who had internal injury died. The attack occurred at Muna area, Maiduguri. Dogara laments low awareness of legislature’s role by Nigerians

http://ift.tt/2r3A7oO Dogara In spite of the country’s 18 unbroken years of democracy, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, said on Saturday in Kabba, Kogi, that many Nigerians were still ignorant of the role of the legislature as a vital arm of government. Dogara said the glaring ignorance on the part of many Nigerians had continued to put the legislature under “tremendous pressure and challenge”. “Constituents inundate legislators with requests and demands that are clearly outside the functions of the parliament,” said Dogara, who was in Kabba to inaugurate some projects initiated by Rep. Tajudeen Yusuf. He urged Nigerians to be abreast of the constitutional duties of the parliament, saying its role is purely law making, oversight and representation. Oba Ewuare II recalls ostracised family, says they were wrongly banished

The Oba also directed that all her lands and other property that were confiscated by the village leadership be returned to her immediately. Ewuare II gave the order at Ugha-Ozolua in his palace while presiding over matters affecting individuals, families and villages. Orhue and her children were banished from Obe N’Evbueribo in Ikpoba-Okha by the Odionwere, Mr Oyeobasojie Ekhator and Ohen Osaghae Edobo after a dispute over land and other property. She was also said to have been assaulted severally by some Community Development Agency youths believed to have been working for the Odionwere and Ohen. Dead man grabs brother’s hands in mortuary

He said after bathing his brother, he was dressing him with white cloth, when his corpse grabbed his hands. There was panic today at the mortuary of Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, when the hand of the corpse of a man being prepared for burial suddenly grabbed his living brother’s hand. The incident happened as the deceased, identified as Choji Zeng, was being dressed up by his brother, in preparation for burial. Family members, who had participated in the washing of the corpse, ran out in panic as they saw the dead Choji Zeng, holding tight to his younger brother Mr. Gyang Zeng. The pandemonium attracted mortuary attendants, who came in to separate the two brothers. The two brothers had lived together at Ungwan Juma’a Abattoir in Jos metropolis.
