FG constitutes 29-member National Minimum Wage Committee

http://ift.tt/2olIp9n Vice President Yemi Osinbajo The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the setting up of a 29-member National Minimum Wage Committee to negotiate and arrive at a new minimum wage in the country. The meeting was presided over by acting President Yemi Osinbajo. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige said this when he briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting of the Council held in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday. He stated that the approval of the committee followed the council’s deliberation on the report of the joint committee of government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). Ngige said that membership of the committee would be drawn from Governors’ Forum, organised private sector and labour federation. According to the sources from the anti-narcotic cell of Navi Mumbai police, a total of 66 narcotic related cases were registered between 2012 and April, this year in the city. Nigerian nationals were involved in 14 of these cases, the police said. Since 2012, the police have arrested 14 foreign nationals for smuggling drugs to the city and 13 of them were from Nigeria, while one was from Ghana. Barely a week ago, the police arrested one Nigerian from Kopar Khairane who had come to sell mephedrone rock and powder. Around 25 gram of the drug in powder form and 85 gram in rock form collectively worth Rs 3.30 lakh was seized from his possession. Dansuleka also lauded the CBN’s new intervention for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in an interview in Abuja on Thursday, describing it as being in the right direction. “The intervention for the SMEs is good, although the 20,000 dollars that is given is a start-up; for SMEs to thrive more has to be done. “It is not just giving the said amount but the policy that was made in June 2016 should be revisited to ensure that the range of naira to dollars did not exceed N1.99 to N250,’’ he said.
