The suspects are Abiodun, 20, a resident of Owode Ijako, Ogun State and Nurudeen, 25, who reside at  Alagbado, Lagos, were allegedly invited by a car hire operator, Olufemi, for the operation. It was gathered that when Abiodun and Nurudeen got to the plaza, they introduced themselves to the security guards at the gate that they were the sons of a man who parked a Toyota Camry car at the car park within the mall. They told the guards that after their father parked the car, he develop psychiatric problems before abandoning the car and that their family sent them to come and take the car home. The duo, Moses Adeyemi, 19 and Rasheed Naasir, 37, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing filed against them by the police. The defendants were docked before Magistrate Mrs S. K. Matepo. The prosecutor, Sergeant Nicholas Akpene, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the alleged offence between April and May at Shoprite Retail Supermarket Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. The first and second defendant were granted N500,000 and N200,000 bail respectively, both with two sureties in like sum. Vanguard survey revealed that the parallel market exchange rate dropped to N363 per dollar from N371 per dollar on Monday, indicating N8 appreciation for the Naira. Confirming this development, President, Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said it was due to increased confidence in the foreign exchange market due to consistent dollar injection by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). “Most of the huge demand for dollars and spike in the rate were fuelled by speculation and hoarding. The sustained dollar injection by CBN has eliminated these types of demand, hence low level of demand and appreciation of the Naira,” he said.
