Some 50 survivors were picked up by a Danish container ship, the Alexander Maersk, which was alerted to divert by Italian coastguards and dropped them off on Sunday in Pozzallo, southern Sicily. The Commandant of the Corps, Mr Makinde Ayinla, disclosed this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin. Ayinla said that: Jonathan Perekeme, Obi Tuku, Okus Moni and Perede Felix were convicted on a three-count charge each and sentenced to two years on each count. He added the convicts who were arrested in January 2016 at Urohi, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo, were convicted by a Federal High Court sitting in Benin on Wednesday. The commandant said that the convicts were jailed for illegal dealing in petroleum products, an offence punishable under Section 1 (17) of the Miscellaneous Offence Act. Police arrest driver for supplying fuel, food to Boko Haram insurgents

Mr Damian Chukwu, the Commissioner of Police in the state, said this in Maiduguri that the suspect was arrested after a tip-off by members of the public. “The Police have received information that one Modu Mustapha of Jumptilo village was a terrorists’ collaborator, who buys fuel and food for them, at Alagarno and other hideout. “The Police descended on the suspect, who has confessed to the crime,’’ he said.
