Nigeria Limited in partnership with Fortis Projects Services have commissioned the Funmilayo Mobolaji Johnson Skill Acquisition and Development Centre in Eti-Osa, Lagos State The project was donated to the Lagos State Government by Huawei in order to empower the youth of the community. Commissioned by the first lady of Lagos, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, the Centre was designed as an alternative to white collar jobs, with the intention to impart knowledge in various fields like catering, hat and bead making, hairdressing, fashion designing, photography, fridge and air conditioner maintenance, leather works, wood and carpentry, adult literacy and computer studies. Osun doctors protest against half salaries

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Ola Ajayi, with Agency Reports O sogbo —Some  doctors, under the aegis of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, in Osun State, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest in Osogbo against continued payment of half of their salaries by the state government. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the doctors were dressed in their laboratory coats and branded shirts during the protest. They reportedly marched from the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, Complex, Osogbo through the popular Olaiya Junction to other major streets in the state capital. The doctors carried  placards of various inscriptions while singing anti-government songs. Dr Tokunbo Olajumoke, the state NMA chairman, told newsmen during the protest that there were neither drugs nor equipment in any of the state government hospitals. Govs Forum laments importation of bad rice by Jonathan administration

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J T he Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, has expressed concern over the arrival in the country of low quality rice ordered during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. The NGF in a statement said the rice which it described as harmful to human beings came through waivers given to political patrons of the administration as a way of compensation for financial support to the 2015 Jonathan presidential campaign. The statement issued by the Head, Media & Public Affairs of the NGF Abulrazaque Bello- Barkindo said the rice is still finding its way into Nigerian markets despite having stayed for years in their various countries of production. Noting that while the bulk of the rice was stale, others were either rejected in other countries or had overstayed in various warehouses before they found their way into Nigeria through the activities of some unscrupulous elements. Vanguard ’s checks in the state capital revealed that the pensioners are always in strategic positions, particularly in popular filling stations and other public places, begging for alms. Armed with their documents, they approach owners of flashy cars who want to buy petrol, asking them for money so they can feed themselves and their family members. The documents are often displayed to the car owners, to confirm their claims. In some cases, they also display prescriptions for drugs they need to buy to live. More often, they tell pathetic stories of the stipends they are collecting as pensions and efforts being made to make authorities see reason to pay them their dues, which have consistently failed.
