Osinbajo to sign 2017 Budget Thursday

A source told our correspondent in Abuja that the representatives of the President had just concluded a meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly where the date and time of the budget has been announced. The National Assembly on Thursday May 18, passed the N7.44 trillion 2017 Appropriation Bill after over 4 months since it was submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to a joint session of the National Assembly. Both chambers of the assembly raised the figure from N7.30 trillion presented by the president to N7.44 trillion. The National Assembly transmitted same to the President on Friday May 19 for assent. Ortom signs anti-open grazing, kidnapping bills into law

http://ift.tt/2ptKe1Y Samuel Ortom Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue on Monday signed the Anti-Open Grazing and Anti- Kidnapping, Abduction, Cultism and Terrorism bills into law. Ortom, in a brief speech at the ceremony in Makurdi, said that the anti-grazing law would put to an end to incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Benue. The governor lamented the destruction of lives and property in clashes involving farmers and herdsmen over the years, and promised to promote ranching since it had proved to be the best way of rearing livestock globally. “Now that the bill has been signed into law, the law will take its course on anyone that goes against it,” he said. He warned that violators would serve a jail term of five years or a fine option of N1 million, or both.
