Vanguard survey revealed that the parallel market exchange rate dropped from N375 per dollar on Wednesday to N374 per dollar at the close of business yesterday. Parallel market operators attributed the appreciation to weak demand for dollars which occasioned dollar glut in the market.  Investigations revealed that the dollar glut was occasioned by the long holiday and the regular sale of dollars to bureaux de change (BDCs) by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Three children were among the dead in the regime-held Al-Joura district, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. “The shelling hit just before families were gathering to break the Ramadan fast,” said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman. Besieged by IS since early 2015, the regime-controlled third of Deir Ezzor city is home to an estimated 100,000 people. Most of the surrounding oil-rich province is also controlled by IS. “At least six mortar rounds hit the Al-Joura district. The Command also recorded massive seizures of foreign rice brought into the country through the waterways. The new Customs Area Controller, CAC, of WMC, Comptroller Sarkin-Kebbi Mustapha, said the items were estimated at the duty paid value of N11.6million, stressing that they have expanded their operations to the creeks, in order to curb nefarious activities of economic saboteurs.
