WCC condemns attack in Egypt

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Sam Eyoboka THE World Council of Churches (WCC) General Secretary, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit has condemned yesterday’s attack on a bus in Egypt carrying Coptic Christians. Twenty-six people were said to have died in the attack while 25 others were injured, according to media reports, after unidentified gunmen opened fire on the bus. The passengers were traveling to a monastery, St. Samuel the Confessor, near the city of Minya. Tveit offered “heartfelt condolences to the people who lost family members and friends. It is shocking that this attack was directed against people who were on a pilgrimage of peace, and that this attack comes on the heels of ongoing violence and persecution. “In the face of this brutality, the human family, all people of faith and of good will, must stand together to recommit to respecting and caring for one another, to protecting one another, and to preventing such violence,” he added. The President, who confirmed this development on his twitter handle on Sunday in Abuja, said he also received the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, in the Presidential Villa on similar mission. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Nosa Omorodion AFTER six months of competitive legalese and high drama with doses of comic relief, the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on April 14, 2017, delivered judgment in the petition filed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging the declaration  by INEC that Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Party, APC, won the 2016 Edo State Governorship Election. The respondents in the petition, were INEC, Obaseki and APC as first, second and third respondents, respectively. The petitioners had anchored their petition on alleged electoral infractions namely: improper accreditation/non-accreditation and over-voting in the election that held on September 28, 2016, and  which they submitted contravened the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and the 2016 INEC Election Manual – an official guide for the conduct of the election.
