5 suspects arrested over planned attack on banks in Lagos

Atletico and city rivals Real Madrid were barred from registering new players for two transfer windows in January 2016 for irregularities in the signing of foreign players under 18. “This ruling is unfair and causes an irreparable damage to our club,” Atletico said in a statement. 8 killed in suspected herdsmen attack on Benue villages

The Spokesman of the Police Command in Benue, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the attacks in a statement on Monday in Makurdi. Yamu said the attacks on Akaa and Tse-Orlalu villages in Mbamar, Ugondo communities, were perpetrated by suspected herdsmen late on Sunday. He said that the police had yet to establish the motive for the attack and that adequate personnel had been drafted to the villages to restore normalcy. He said the attackers invaded the villages, killed eight people and injured many others. Country legend Loretta Lynn suffers stroke

Lynn, who turned 85 last month and remains professionally active, suffered a stroke Thursday night at her ranch in Tennessee, said a statement on her website. “She is currently under medical care and is responsive and expected to make a full recovery,” it said, while adding that she had canceled upcoming shows. Identifiable for her floor-length gowns, Lynn was one of the original women in country music and a protegee of Patsy Cline, who defined the female role in the genre. Defections hit PDP in Akwa Ibom

The defection in Ikono, generally regarded as the cradle of the Ibibio, was the latest defection to hit the PDP in the state in recent times. Among those that defected were four former councillors, Iboro Akpan, Samuel Etuk, Ndifreke Essien and Jonathan Umana, a former PDP chapter secretary, Dr George Udoh, a former University of Uyo official, Dr Silas Udofia and Mr Victor Etefia, an oil mogul in the state.
