Asekutu, Okowa intelligence aide, harps on need for community cooperation

Youths beat up Borno lawmaker; hospitalised

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Ndahi Marama MAIDUGURI—Member representing Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area in Borno State House of Assembly, Mr. Ahmed Banga, escaped death, yesterday, as a mob attacked him at one of the centres for the ongoing continuous voters registration in the town. It took the  intervention of security operatives to rescue the lawmaker from the mob, who were reportedly armed with cutlasses, knife, sticks and other dangerous weapons. The lawmaker was rushed to the nearby Gombe Federal Medical Centre. Efforts to speak with him were unsuccessful, but the Caretaker Chairman of the Council, Babangida Peta, confirmed the incident, stressing that he had travelled from Kwaya Kusar to Gombe to sympathise with the lawmaker. Lagos Council Polls: LASIEC bows to pressure, slashes controversial administration charges

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Lagos – The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) at the weekend caved in to pressure mounted on it by some of the political parties over what they termed exorbitant and illegal administration charges fixed for the July 22, 2017 council elections and agreed to review the fees. The decision followed a consultative meeting between executive members of the inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC),Lagos State chapter, and LASIEC top officials on how to resolve the crisis over the controversial administrative fees. Independent gathered that the agency’s chairman, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Philips, has already agreed to reduce the amounts to N50,000 for chairmanship candidates, N30,000 for the vice chairmen and N20,000 for the councillorship candidates to save the elections and avoid mass boycott by parties. Community warns: Don’t add Effurun families to Agaga Erugba leadership
