Declare June 12 as Public Holiday, Okowa’s Aide tells FG

Ovie made this known in a statement at Asaba yesterday, while noting that the Presidential  election of June 12 1993, will forever be in the political history of Nigeria. Release abducted students, Lagos lawmaker appeals to kidnappers

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Segun Olulade, on Wednesday appealed to the abductors of six students of Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, in Epe to release them from captivity. Olulade, representing Epe Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the plea in an interview with the Newsmen in Lagos. six students were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on May 25, when the kidnappers gained entry into the school after breaking a portion of the fence. According to Olulade, the students are innocent children who do not deserve to be kidnapped for any reason whatsoever. “It is a sad incident that we have not been able to recover from. We have been talking with the affected parents. We share the pains of the parents and their concerns; we know it is not easy. “We want to appeal to those who are involved in this nefarious act to please release these innocent children. “The kidnappers should consider the pains and agonies of the victims’ parents and relations. “We ca...

Pope puts off visit to South Sudan amid reported security concerns

South Sudan is suffering from famine and a civil war that started more than three years ago. Francis was planning a trip with the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who represents the majority religion in the country on Oct. 15. “A possible trip has been under study, but it will not take place this year,” Vatican spokesman Greg Burke said. He reacted to a report by Rome-based paper Il Messaggero, according to which the decision not to go was taken “a few days ago” after a delegation that went to South Sudan concluded that security was too precarious. Francis had said in February that he was considering a trip to South Sudan. Mrs Buhari departs for London

Mrs Buhari departed through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Tuesday morning. Before her departure, the wife of the President thanked Nigerians for their support and prayers for the quick recovery of Buhari.
