Tsav accuses Ortom of privatising Benue state

http://ift.tt/2reGUwx Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, Federal Public Complaints Commissioner of the Federation, overseeing Benue state has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing Gov Samuel Ortom of “executive recklessness” and privatisation of the state. The 10-page letter dated May 16th titled ” Whistleblowing: Stagnation of Benue State” was addressed to Gov Ortom and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Makurdi. Copies were also sent to all the anti-graft agencies in the country. Tsav in the letter accused Gov Ortom of “corruptive nepotism and executive recklessness” by placing his family business, Oracle Business Limited above the state. KWASU now a debtor institution, says Pro-Chancellor

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Alhaji Saidu Isa, Pro-Chancellor, Kwara State University (KWASU), has said that the university has assumed the status of a debtor institution following its recent financial constraints. Isa made the statement on Saturday in Malete, Ilorin, during the 5th convocation ceremony of the university. He said that the university had in the last two years, depended on its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to pay staff salaries and offset some recurrent expenditure. The Pro-Chancellor, who is also the Chairman of the university`s council, appealed to the state government to revert to status quo by giving monthly subvention to the university to augment its IGR. ”This is because our IGR has been overstretched beyond capacity and it is now difficult to pay salaries. ”The management, having found no alternative, has resorted to going cap-in-hand to borrow from banks in other to meet some obligations,’’ he said. Nigeria’s unemployment rate rises to 14.2 % in Q4 in 2016

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the unemployment rate in the country rose from 13.9 per cent in the 3rd quarter to 14.2 per cent in the 4th quarter of 2016. The NBS made this known in the “Unemployment/Under-employment Report for 4th Quarter of 2016’’ made available on the bureau’s website on Tuesday in Abuja. The report said that the period under review showed that population, unemployed was 27.12 million in 3rd quarter, compared to 28.58 million persons in the 4th quarter. It said that this showed an increase in the number of unemployed labour force by 351,015 persons. According to the bureau, the percentage increase in both the 2nd and 1st quarter of 2016 were slightly lower at 13.4 per cent and 12.1 per cent, respectively. It showed that 26.06 million persons were unemployed in 2nd quarter and while 24.5 million were unemployed in the 1st quarter in the year under review.
