Two worshipers lure teenage girl to back of church, gang-rape her during fellowship

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Two friends and worshippers — Samuel Oriko and Joseph Bassey — who allegedly lured a teenage girl to the back of a  church during fellowship and gang-raped her, were on Friday hauled up before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. The accused — Oriko, 25, and Bassey, 30 — both unemployed, reside in Ogba in Ikeja area of Lagos. The two are being tried for conspiracy and gang rape. The accused, according to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, committed the offences on May 23 at the back of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ogba. Donny said the accused lured the girl to the back of the church while prayer was going on and raped her. He said the two accused and the 13-year-old girl are members of the congregation. “The accused covered the girl’s mouth so that she will not shout and took turns to rape her. “The girl wept profusely and reported the incident to her mother, who was praying inside the church and the accused were immediately apprehended,” Donny tol...

Former commissioner, supporters, join APC in Enugu State

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Chief Joe Mmamel, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Enugu State, on Saturday joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mmamel completed his defection to the APC when he registered in his Agu Obowa Ward II in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state. He was received by his ward Chairman, Mr Chidozie Uchenna, APC chairman in Enugu state, Dr Ben Nwoye and the party’s national Vice Chairman in the South-East, Chief Emma Enukwu. The former governor of the state under the platform of the PDP, Mr Sullivan Chime, was among the dignitaries who received Mmamel. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Thursday, said it has commenced investigation into the alleged lop-lopsidedness in the recruitment of Cadet officers in the Department of State Services (DSS). The Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Tijjani Kaura, who said this in a Point-of-Order at plenary on Thursday, promised that the committee would soon come up with its recommendations. Quoting Order 43 of the Senate Standing Order, to buttress his point, Kaura said the committee was prompted to commence investigation into the matter following petitions from some concerned Nigerians.
