External reserve drops to $30.78bn as naira remain N385/$

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Babajide Komolafe The nation’s external  reserve  dropped $30.78 billion on Monday, the lowest in ten days, even as the naira remain stable at N385 per dollar in the parallel market exchange rate. The external reserve data released today by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that external reserve continued its downward trend to $30.78 billion as at end of Monday. This represents decline of $100 million when compared with the closing level of $30.88 billion Friday last week. The reserve has been on the downward trend since May 4th 2017, when it reached a peak of $30.99 billion. Since then the reserve has fallen by $210 million. Bamaiyi: EFCC re-arraigns Ajudua over $10.3m fraud

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Abdulwahab Abdulah & Jane Echewodo Lagos —Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday re-arraigned a Lagos socialite, Fred Ajudua, before Justice Josephine Oyefeso of an Ikeja High Court for allegedly defrauding a former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi of $10.3 million. The defendant pleaded not guilty to a 28–eight count charge bordering on conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences and obtaining money by false pretences brought against him by the commission. Ajudua was arraigned after Justice Oyefeso had in a ruling dismissed his application   dated Jan. 6 challenging the jurisdiction of the court to try him. According to EFCC, prosecutor, Mr. S.A. Atteh the defendant committed the alleged conspiracy and fraud in 2004 alongside five alleged accomplices while he was in prison. Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, the acting Commissioner for Transportation, disclosed this at the 2017 Ministerial briefing to mark Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s two years in office. Elegushi said the new regime of commercial vehicle number plate would ensure clear identification of vehicles registered for commercial purposes. “The state agencies like Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, Number Plate Production Agency and ministry of transportation will fine-tune the operations and issuance,” the commissioner said. Elegushi noted that the development would bring a robust database for vehicles involved in commercial transportation to ensure safety of passengers.
