Breaking: Five fear killed as Senator Dino’s protest turns bloody in Kogi

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By BOLUWAJI OBAHOPO LOKOJA – No fewer than five persons were hit with bullet at the gate of Kogi State polytechnic, Lokoja where senator Dino Melaye was holding a protest against the state government. The protest which stated around 11am turned bloody when gunmen yet to be identified invaded the venue of protset. The gunmen who stormed the venue from the Nataco junction brandishing guns of different guns and cutlasses started shooting into different direction sending people scampering for safety including journalists who were at hands to cover the event. Before the Army and the state commissioner of Police could reach there almost an hour into the shooting, five persons have fell victims of gun shots with a vehicle caught in flame as well. …details latter. Boko Haram claims Maiduguri attack in new video

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Boko Haram, in a new video, has claimed responsibility for the attack on Maiduguri on Wednesday night that killed at least 15 people. It was the first major assault on the city in 18 months. “We have killed those we can and have left with the bounties of war we are displaying now,” said a voice on a video released by Boko Haram on Saturday, showing the group’s fighters among piles of ammunition and other supplies. “We are hale and hearty, contrary to claims that we have been killed,” the voice said. The Boko Haram fighters attacked Maiduguri’s suburbs with anti-aircraft guns and several suicide bombers, a police official said on Thursday.  The three bombers sent into the city  self-destructed. C’River awards N1.16bn banana farm contract

http://ift.tt/2sgGSV3 Calabar – The Cross River Government says that it has awarded N1.16 billion contract for the commencement of work on a model banana farm project in Akamkpa town of Akamkpa Local Government Area. Prof. Anthony Eneji, state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, stated this on Sunday in Calabar. Eneji said that the contract was the first phase, adding that work would commence on a 100 hectares out of the 250 hectares of land allocated for the project in the state. He said that already, the contractor had been mobilised to sight for the first phase of the project. According him, the second phase will start in Boki Local Government Area. “The farm will grow different species of banana, and thereafter, turn them into finished products such as fruit juice, banana sweets, chips and so on,” he said.
