Mr Isah Onobere, the Sole Administrator of the company made this known during a media tour to the company on Friday. Onobere said that the first phase of the plant would also provide direct employment for 10,000 technical staff when inaugurated. He also said the first phase had been completed, adding that it was envisaged to produce 1.3 million tonnes of liquid steel per annum. He said that it would cost 400 million dollars to complete Ajaokuta steel, which had reached 98 per cent completion. According to him, two billion dollars is needed for infrastructure rehabilitation and operational cost. He said the last diagnosis by Doctors in   ESUT Teaching Hospital,   Enugu indicated he had spinal cord compression. His hope now on standing on   his feet again is to go for treatment in India at the present cost of about N5 million. When he spoke with Saturday Vanguard from his wheel, he was optimistic that God will heal him and pleaded with members of the public for help. The FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr Babatope Ajakaiye gave the directive in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with chairmen of the area councils and other stakeholders. Ajakaiye urged officers, schools and residents of the territory to make themselves available for the exercise to prevent spread of the disease. He warned that government would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute defiant. “This is part of the proactive measures to forestall the spread of meningitis in the FCT,’’ he said.
