http://ift.tt/2rly1MX …mother’s scream attracted son, who went to hug her By Ola Ajayi Ibadan—IT was a pathetic scene at Alare Compound of Aremo in Ibadan North-East Local Government Area yesterday, as sympathisers gathered to mourn the death of a pregnant woman and her two-year-old son by electrocution. The incident reportedly happened when the woman was spreading some clothes she had washed on a line at her residence. Vanguard gathered that it was the deceased that was electrocuted first. Her scream was said to have drawn the attention of her son, who ran to his mum and hugged her and was electrocuted, too. A neighbour told Vanguard that “a nearby hotel had connected a wire to a house to provide illumination for passers-by at night. “Unknown to the deceased, who was four months pregnant, the insulator on the wire had worn off. As she was spreading her clothes on it, she was electrocuted. She screamed, attracting the innocent boy, who ran to his mum. “He too got electrocuted o...

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Samuel Oyadongha & Emem Idio Y ENAGOA —THE Eric Omare-led faction of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, IYC, has rejected the Chief Joshua Fumudoh-led Ijaw Eminent Persons Committee set up by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State to resolve the crisis rocking the IYC, saying that it has rather caused further division among Ijaw youths. The committee, which was set up to reconcile the two factions of the IYC to achieve a unified IYC, on Wednesday, recognised the Okrika, Rivers State convention which produced the Roland Pereotubo-led executives to the chagrin of the Omare-led faction. Omare, whose executives were elected at the Burutu, Delta State, convention, in a statement yesterday, said that the Chief Fumudoh-led Ijaw Eminent Persons Committee, instead of reconciling the two factions, had succeeded in causing further division in the IYC by recognising the Okrika faction of the IYC without taking into account its position. He said:...

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J •Jacks up capital by N595m By Emmauel Elebeke IF the recently approved 2017 national budget finally gets the nod of the Presidency by way of asset, then the ministry of communications and its two affiliate agencies, the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NigComSat and the Nigerian Postal Services, NIPOST, respectively, they would actually be spending more on capital and less on recurrent as earlier proposed.
