Hajiya Umar-Farouk said the relief materials, worth millions of naira, were for asylum seekers from Central African Republic, CAR. She listed the items donated to include 107 bags of rice, 107 bags of beans, 107 bags of Garri, 107 bags of sugar, 107 bags of salt, 107 jerry cans of palm oil and 107 jerry cans of vegetable oil. Others are 150 blankets, 150 mosquito nets, 150 mattresses, 150 stoves, 150 cooking pots, 40 cartons of toilet soap, shoes, children wears, bundles of wrappers, biros and exercise books among others. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, Nigeria’s public debt rose by 43 per cent to N18 trillion in 2016. The IMF stated this in its 2017 Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Economic Outlook released, yesterday, noting that insufficient policy adjustment was impeding economic growth in oil exporting countries as Nigeria and Central African nations. It was learned that government had kept to its promise of paying death benefits and released billions of Naira for payment to families of military personnel across the Army, Navy and Air Force. Those of troops killed in 2010, 2011 and 2012 were duly paid to their families. However, when it got to the turn of families of soldiers and officers killed in 2013 (825 of them), only 24 families were paid, leaving a backlog of 801. Speaking in Asaba, through the Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr.   Ernest Ogwezzy, during the presentation of relief materials to 60 victims of fire disaster from Pessu Market in Warri and 11 victims of rainstorm disaster in Oleh, the government blamed fire and rainstorm disasters on improper fuel storage, power surge, illegal connection of electricity, blocked drainages and indiscriminate felling of trees. Disclosing that the 63 fire victims from Warri were given N3 million,  Ogwezzy said the 11 victims of rainstorm disaster from Oleh got N1.5 million, amounting to N4.5 million. JEDC and its customers have been at loggerheads over the viability of the said smart metres, following series of complaints and petitions trailing their installations. This prompted NEMSA to order a stop to further installation on the grounds that they did not pass through routine test in the agency. It further described family planning as one of the factors that can aid reduction in the maternal mortality in the state. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike, disclosed this in Abakaliki while inaugurating the state’s family planning advocacy working group. He said: “The only way surviving is family planning and the only way of reducing very negative health indices of maternal mortality is  family planning.
