Gains of struggle still unrealised, say Agbakoba, Odumakin, Uranta, others

Former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba, spokesman of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, Executive Secretary, Nigerian National Summit Group, Tony Uranta, and member of the 2014 National Conference, Wale Okuniyi, yesterday, lamented that the expected results from the struggle have remained unrealised.    Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s 24th anniversary celebration, Agbakoba, who said he was not totally disappointed with the June 12 struggle because it eventually led to the exit of the military from government added, “that is not to say I am happy because the situation in the country today does not justify the risk, danger...

Again, leadership lessons from Real Madrid…

What else shall we write about local politics without ethics? The more you look at what is happening to the resurgent ‘Biafran Dream’, for instance, the less we see! Just as observers were scratching heads over what to do with the Biafra conundrum, like a bolt from the blues came a toxic quit notice to the Oriental brothers to leave the North. The notice, clearly an assault on Nigeria’s constitution has triggered a spate of other more toxic statements from other youth and elders’ organizations in the South. Unto a section of the South South, in 2018 will be born a new Republic called RONDEL, Region of Niger Delta, for instance. Nigeria is “on the brink again” on the eve of June 12 anniversary – of the day General IBB’s gover...

Quit notice to Ndigbo:Groups want Ango Abdullahi arrested

http://ift.tt/2oCmYPL Prof. Ango Abdullahi. • Institute Tasks Police To Arrest Arewa Youth Leaders • IPOB Hails Position As Sadauki Calls For Summit • No Smoke Without Fire — Oodua Redemption Alliance As the call by some Arewa youths on Igbo residing in the North to quit the region by October 1, 2017 continues to elicit mixed reactions, some individuals and groups have called on the Federal Government to exert strong sanctions on the instigators. This is just as a major disagreement is said to have emerged among the northern youths in Kaduna over the ejection order, as some of the youths have come out to dissociate themselves from the ultimatum. However, former Kaduna State Deputy Governor and Interim President of Jam’irar Matan Arewa (JMA), Dr. Pamela Sadauki, has appealed to the youths and other aggrieved elders in the region to bury their hatchets, and withdraw the threat against the Igbo. Sadauki said, “given the unfortunate situation that we have found ourselves tod...

Quit notice to Ndigbo: No smoke without fire – Oodua Redemption Alliance

Image
http://ift.tt/2rjiWQp Ndigbo The Oodua Redemption Alliance (ARA) has said no one should trivialise the quit order issued Ndigbo to leave the north come October 1. In a release by the group signed by Comrade Victor Taiwo yesterday, it said there cannot be smoke without fire, just as it is known all over the world that the youths of any society are the breathing trunks of the society. The statement read: “And so, if anybody is gullible or foolish enough as to trivialise the declaration of the Arewa youth leaders, such a person is doing so at his own peril. “Essentially, we take very seriously to the declaration of the northern youth leaders, as we cannot but take it that these guys are speaking the minds of their leaders in masks. “We in Yorubaland should therefore be wise enough as fortify our home front in anticipation of any eventualities.”“Meanwhile, it would be observed that out of the three major pillars of the country, namely, the Hausa/Fulani of the North, the Igbo of...

Kaduna Airport: After N2bn facelift, international edifice lying fallow

http://ift.tt/2peVSjF Kaduna Airport used to be like that until recently. Apparently to the taste of the ever busy MMIA and NAIA, it was upgraded to international status in February and March for 24-hours flights operations. • Insecurity Working Against Kaduna – NASI Chair • FAAN Cannot Force Airlines To Go To Any Airport – Yakubu Kaduna Airport was recently upgraded to international status to drive traffic in the wake of repair works at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. But few weeks down the line, the aerodrome has returned to its sleepy state amidst huge investment that might just have been a waste. WOLE OYEBADE reports. Except for Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, Airports nationwide are perpetually dormant. While some are blessed with one or two flights operations per day, several others rarely see landing or takeoff in weeks. And at nightfall when most airports around the world ar...

Reps insist on probing Shorefac, navy partnership in maritime sector

http://ift.tt/2sahJe0 Members of the House of Representatives during a plenary The House of Representatives has said it would not be swayed to stop the probe of proposed deal between Shorefac Consortium Limited and the Nigerian Navy.Chairman of House Committee on Navy, Mr. Abdussamad Dasuki, said there is no going back on probing the deal, which could lead to commercialisation of Maritime Services Department of the Navy. Debunking rumours that his committee was being pressurised not to go ahead with the probe, he said: “I am not aware of any pressure. The House has given us a mandate, and our job is to investigate it thoroughly, make recommendations in the best interest of Nigeria and report back.” He spoke against the backdrop of speculation that members of the committees on Navy and Defence were being lobbied to ignore the probe of the deal considered in certain quarters as capable of undermining national security.  Indeed, a source close to the committee said: “It is...

Amazon takes on remote outpost in the land of bricks and mortar

Image
http://ift.tt/2pXJ2YQ Amazon.com Inc., which has lost billions overseas trying to replicate its U.S. success, is now attempting to crack one of the biggest and most sparsely populated nations where bricks-and-mortar retailers are king. The Seattle-based company, which sells everything from groceries and big-screen TVs to high-end fashion, says it’s “actively looking” for a warehouse as it prepares to start operations in Australia. Anticipating a price war, analysts have almost halved profit forecasts for local electronics chains such as Harvey Norman Holdings Ltd. and JB Hi-Fi Ltd. But the world’s largest online retailer, which has exported its model to Germany, the U.K., Japan and most recently India, faces unprecedented challenges in Australia. It’s a nation almost as large as the U.S. but home to just 24 million people. Major population pockets can be 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles) apart, driving up the cost of fast deliveries. Wages are higher than in most major developed...
