Bomb Scare: Passengers jump off plane in Australia

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Terrified passengers jumped from a Virgin Airline plane at an Australian airport after a threatening note was found on board. According to AAP, passengers were told to leave their luggage and jump about 1.2 metres from the exits onto the tarmac. The reported bomb threat, which turned out to be a hoax, was found in the bathroom just a day after a deadly terrorist siege in Melbourne. “Nothing was found, there was no actual threat to anybody, just a note, so there was nothing in it,” a police spokeswoman told Reuters. Police said the 68-passenger turboprop plane with 42 passengers on board on a domestic flight was evacuated at the airport in Albury, in southern New South Wales. A man was arrested. A passenger told the Australian Associated Press he heard someone shout: “Leave your luggage. Get out and run, run, run.” “Police and emergency services attended Albury airport after receiving information that a note was located in the toilet area,” New South Wales s...

VAT Wonder Goal: Ubong Friday beats Obaje to clinch award

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Ubong Friday’s long range strike for Akwa United against ABS on Matchday 21 was the toast of voters in the VAT Wonder Goal poll conducted from Thursday, June 1 to Sunday, June 4. The Akwa United forward’s goal shook off a stiff competition from that of Godwin Obaje of FC Ifeanyiubah, the popular choice for voters on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Twitter poll. While 47 percent of the voters on the Twitter platform preferred Obaje’s goal in FC Ifeanyiubah’s defeat of Kano Pillars, Ubong secured 41 percent of the votes cast and Wilfred Ammeh of Niger Tornadoes had the remaining 12 percent. However, a whopping 81.1 percent of the voters on the NPFL website (www.npfl.ng) favoured Ubong’s goal, Obaje had 12.4 percent of the voters while Ammeh had 6.5 percent. A total of 337 voters participated through the NPFL Twitter handle while 635 voted on the website poll. The three goals were shortlisted from a total of 23 scored on the matchday. Obaje was t...

I T is very worrisome that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has refused to obey a court order to swear in the valid and bona fide candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who won the 2015 general election for the Akwa Ibom North East senatorial seat, Senator Saraki has, in total disregard for all laid down procedures. A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, had removed Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan from the National Assembly having found out that Akpan was not the valid and bona fide candidate of the PDP for the Akwa Ibom North East senatorial seat. In a judgement on a pre-election dispute between a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bassey Etim and Mr. Akpan over who was the authentic candidate of the PDP in the election, the court specifically held that Akpan had wrongly and illegally represented the Akwa Ibom North ...

Extra security for Scotland v England match

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Robust extra security measures are to be implemented for Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier between old rivals England and Scotland in Glasgow after recent terror attacks in Britain. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) said gates would open earlier than usual — at 1400GMT for the 1600GMT kick-off — ahead of the sold out clash and there would be body and bag searches. There will also be an outer cordon which will only permit ticket holders to enter the area. A free bus service will be provided from the city centre to the stadium before the match and will ferry spectators back after the match. The measures — taken in consultation with police and English counterparts the Football Association (FA) — have been put in place after the three terror attacks this year, two in London and one in Manchester, have left 34 dead and around 200 injured. “The safety of fans is of paramount importance to the Scottish FA and a range of measures will be implemented as part o...

Man City pushing for top-four finish

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Gabriel Jesus’s return has come at a good time for Manchester City as they seek to move closer to Champions League qualification by beating Crystal Palace at home on Saturday. The Brazil striker, 20, has made two appearances since recovering from a broken foot sustained at Bournemouth in February. Having seen a goal disallowed in a 0-0 draw against Manchester United, he grabbed a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough last weekend after being promoted from the bench to the starting line-up. With Sergio Aguero struggling to recover from a groin problem, there is every chance that Jesus will start again on Saturday as City look to consolidate their top-four position.
