Groups sign N6.m MoU to support IDPs

http://ift.tt/2rixnzL Two Non-Governmental Organisations- Grooming (People for Better Livelihoods) Centre (Grooming Centre), and Sesor Empowerment Foundation (Sesor), recently signed a N6, 675, 000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support Sesor’s work with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Lagos and Benue states. This agreement builds on a successful long standing partnership the two NGOs have had since 2014. Grooming Centre has been supporting Sesor through various stages of its relief and rehabilitative work for IDPs in 8 states. Their partnership kicked off with Grooming Centre funding Sesor’s relief missions for displaced persons to Benue (caused by herdsmen attacks) and then later in 2014, to Plateau, Gombe & Adamawa. Their support resulted in the publishing of Sesor’s ground-breaking collaborative publication (‘Do they know it is Christmas?’) which told the stories of some displaced persons in certain camps in the 3 states. With eight million metric tones of plastic entering world water bodies yearly, plastic bottles have become the world most mismanaged waste. Experts said only one percent of that figure ever floats ashore for possible picking, leaving about 99 per cent never found. According to Biofina, plastic bottle spends 450 years in the ocean, before decomposition, while it can even take some bottles 1000 years to biodegrade. Given these numbers, it is evident that the ocean hides is already storing wastes for us and for generation unborn. General-Secretary of the African Insurance Organization, AIO, Ms Prisca Soares at a press conference after the launching of the second Africa Insurance Barometer at the on-going 44th AIO Conference and General Assembly in Kampala, Uganda said that insurance market in the continent was still dominated by South Africa. The other major markets, she mentioned, include Morocco, Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria while the top five markets account for 85 percent of the total premiums.
