UN set to honour 3 fallen peacekeepers from Kenya

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The UN will on Wednesday honour 117 peacekeepers, among them three Kenyans, at the global organisation’s headquarters to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. A statement from the UN Information Centre (UNIC), in Nairobi said Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will lay a wreath to honour all fallen peacekeepers during the ceremony. Guterres said the Dag Hammarskjold Medal will be awarded posthumously to 117 military, police and civilian personnel who lost their lives while serving in peacekeeping operations during 2016. Corporals Joseph Kandie and Albert Nziu Muthui served with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS); and Charles Nyawara Sidede served as a civilian staff member in the UN Operation in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI). Kano: Police arrests 96 suspected rapists in 2 months

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Magaji Majiya, said at an interaction with newsmen in Kano that 77 of the suspects had been charged  to court, while eight cases were under investigation. He gave the average age of the suspects to be from 75 to 23. “It is disheartening to note that from April to date we have recorded 85  incidents  of rape and other  related offences. “A total number of 96 suspects were arrested and 77 cases have already been charged to court for Prosecution”. Majiya expressed regret that indecency and unnatural offences have been on the increase in the state. They told newsmen that Nigeria would lose billions of naira to religious tourism if Temitope Joshua and SCOAN should make the plan real. Recall that TB Joshua, during one of his church services , recently, said he was planning to relocate to Israel from Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos. It was reported that TB Joshua was in Israel recently where he held meetings with the mayors of Jerusalem, Tiberia and the Jordan Valley. Adamawa to start relocating IDPs

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J   Adamawa State has concluded arrangements to start relocating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from NYSC Orientation Camp to Malkohi Camp in Yola South Local Government Area. Mr Haruna Furo, Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, made this known in an interview with Newsmen  on Friday. He confirmed that about 1,000 IDPs, who indicated interest to be relocated from the NYSC Orientation Camp, would be merged with IDPs at Malkohi Camp. Furo said that the decision would enable the state government to reopen the NYSC camp which was turned to an IDP camp in the last three years. “We have already concluded arrangements to commence relocation of interested IDPs from NYSC camp to Malkohi Camp,’’ Furo said. According to Furo, who is also the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, the relocation will enable the IDPs, mostly farmers, to start farming again. The EFCC, on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, arraigned the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala A. Mohammed before Justice A. M. Talba. Bala, while in office as minister, allegedly received N550million as bribe from the Aso Savings and Loans Limited with respect to some properties in the Asokoro area of Abuja.
