NPF to recruit additional 35,000 personnel, says House Committee chair

Hoodlums attack fire fighters in Zamfara

An eyewitness told newsmen on Sunday in Gusau that the event happened on Saturday. He said the fire service personnel were attacked when they went to the area, in response to a distress call, to put out a fire which gutted a house . The witness further said, as the firemen were trying to put out the fire, the hoodlums stormed the scene and disrupted their intervention with the use of force. According to the eyewitness, the hoodlums attacked the firemen to pave way for looting within the vicinity of the incident. The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Mu’azu Nalado, who visited the injured personnel at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau on Sunday, condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate. 5,000 Bauchi farmers to benefit from Greenland-initiated loan facility

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J No fewer than 5,000 farmers in Bauchi state are expected to benefit from agricultural loan facility initiated by a Bauchi-based firm, Greenland Farmers and Business Solutions Ltd, in collaboration with Tijarah Micro-Finance Bank, Bauchi. Chairman of the firm, Alhaji Ahmed Tahir, who disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi, said the beneficiaries were drawn from seven local government areas of the state, namely Bauchi, Damban, Dass, Ganjuwa, Shira ,Toro and Ningi. 85-year-old dies on Everest during world record bid

Min Bahadur Sherchan was on a bid to reclaim a title that he lost to Japanese mountaineer Yuichiro Miura in 2013. “He passed away at the base camp today at 5:14pm,” Gyanendra Shrestha, an official with the tourism ministry who is at the 5,380 metres (17,600 feet) camp, told AFP. The former soldier became the world’s oldest climber to summit Everest in 2008 when he was 76, but he lost the record five years later when Miura summited the 8,848-metre peak at the age of 80. Libya rescues 129 migrants stranded at sea

Navy spokesman General Ayoub Qassem said the gunmen in a speedboat chased the dinghy on Friday, boarded it around five nautical miles off the town of Zuwara and stole the migrants’ possessions. The migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, including 27 women and two children, were stranded at sea for several hours before being rescued by Libyan coastguard alerted by a local fisherman, Qassem told AFP. The International Organization for Migration said a total of 371 migrants were rescued on Friday thanks to the intervention of fishermen in three separate incidents off Zuwara. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J At least 29 schoolchildren were killed in a bus crash in northern Tanzania on Saturday, along with two teachers and the driver, the school’s director said. “We lost 29 students and two of our staff, and the driver died too,” said Innocent Mushi, director of the Lucky Vincent Primary School in the northern city of Arusha, where the children were pupils. The dead included 12 boys and 17 girls, he said. “It’s a huge tragedy,” Mushi added. The accident happened early on Saturday when the bus went off the road and into the Marera river gorge in Karatu district where the pupils were to sit mock examinations.
