MIGUEL MEDINA / AFP Mohamed Salah and Stephan El Shaarawy fired a double apiece and Edin Dzeko struck late as Roma put Juventus’s title celebrations on hold with a 5-3 win at Chievo on Saturday. Roma travelled to Verona knowing defeat, coupled with a Napoli draw against Fiorentina later, could hand Juventus a record sixth consecutive title before the Turin giants host relegation-haunted Crotone on Sunday. But with Napoli only one point further adrift and desperate to snatch Serie A’s second automatic Champions League qualifying spot, Luciano Spalletti’s men were in no mood for capitulating early. Trump rails against ‘cruel despotism’ in Cuba

Image
http://ift.tt/2pnUNG6 Donald Trump./ AFP PHOTO / Brendan Smialowski Donald Trump on Saturday railed against “cruel despotism” in Cuba, saying the island nation’s people deserve a government that upholds democracy. In a tribute issued by the US president on Cuban Independence Day, he said that “cruel despotism cannot extinguish the flame of freedom in the hearts of Cubans, and… unjust persecution cannot tamper Cubans’ dreams for their children to live free from oppression.” The one-party communist island of Cuba has been ruled by Raul Castro for 12 years after he took over from his ailing revolutionary leader brother Fidel, who died in November having defied the United States during a half-century of iron-fisted rule. Former US President Barack Obama presided over a US opening toward the country, with full diplomatic ties restored after decades, but Trump has threatened to roll back the historic rapprochement. “The Cuban people deserve a government that peacefully upholds d...

Prayer-dispensing machine installed at Stuttgart airport

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Stuttgart (Germany) – Passengers passing through Stuttgart airport in Germany are being offered a new way to pray — a photo booth-like machine that delivers prayers from various faiths at the push of a button. Developed by Berlin artist Oliver Sturm, the machine is scheduled to operate for three months. An employee of the airport’s chaplaincy said on Thursday that “we installed the machine in the departures area on purpose, as passengers are generally more relaxed after they have passed through security.” Meanwhile, Sturm said that his “Gebetomat,” a portmanteau of the German words for prayer and machine, had been in operation since 2008, “but this is the first time it is being installed at an airport. “The machine is not intended to promote any particular religion,’’ he added. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Abuja – The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Thursday said the era of using governors as “punching bags’’ to score cheap political points in the country was over. The Head, Media and Public Affairs at NGF Secretariat, Mr Abulrazque Barkindo, stated this in a statement in Abuja. He said that the governors were signatories to an initiative, Open Governance Partnership (OGP), aimed at improving governance and promote transparency in governance. Barkindo decried the “incessant attacks on state governors’’ by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, saying they were heating up the polity and raising concerns. He recalled that Dogara recently tackled the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, where he challenged the governor to make public his salary and security votes “to which the governor obliged’’. “The governor had earlier demanded that the Speaker should come clean on the expenditures of the National Assembly but instead Dogar...
