Akeredolu made the appeal when he received the new Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Zone 11, Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover, in Akure. He said the menace of kidnapping was a source of concern to the people and government of the state. “These miscreants are trying to infiltrate into our state and it is only the Police that can guarantee our security,” the governor said. He said the police had been doing well, but asked for more patrols to be able to keep such crime at bay. “All we need is a pro-active force, which is what we already have,” he said. The Director-General of the agency, Malam Mustapha Maihaja, announced this during the Cash Transfer Preparedness Programme organised for staff of the agency and the Nigerian Red Cross in Abuja. The programme was organised by the International Committee for Red Cross (ICRC). Malam Sani Datti, the spokesman of the agency, said in a statement in Maiduguri on Sunday that Maihaja was represented at the programme by the Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr Kayode Fagbemi “I have no doubt that this Cash Transfer Preparedness Programme is important, considering the complex nature of the relief management,” the director-general was quoted as saying. The CNS made the promise on Sunday in Abuja at an inter-denominational church service held at Anglican Church Mogadishu Military Cantonment, to mark the 61st anniversary of the navy. He expressed delight that the Nigerian Navy had attained 61 years and had also done well in protecting the nation’s maritime domain and the security of the country. Ibas noted that though there were series of challenges the Navy encountered while carrying out its professional responsibilities, its officers and men were not deterred.
