Australia pledges to help Nigeria diversify economy

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Mr Dario Morosini, the Special Envoy for Human Rights of the Australian Prime Minster, has expressed his country’s commitment to support Nigeria’s quest to tackle insecurity and fight against corruption. A statement by the Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Dr Clement Aduku, on Thursday in Abuja quoted Morosini as saying this when he visited the ministry. The Special Envoy was received by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye. Morosini said his country would lend a helping hand to the Nigerian government in its efforts to diversify the economy. Benue Gov’s wife donates medical facilities to rural health centre

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Mrs. Eunice Ortom, wife of Benue Governor, on Monday donated X-Ray and Ultra-modern scanning machines to a healthcare centre in Naka, Gwer West Local Government of the state. Ortom, who made the donations to mark the Democracy Day celebrations, restated government’s commitment to tackling issues of maternal and child mortality in the rural areas. She said that her NGO – Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) – had identified the lack of good water as the major cause of illness in rural communities, and promised to provide a borehole to Naka community. The governor’s wife also lamented the closure of Government Comprehensive Secondary School in Bonanka, which had robbed the community of its closest school, and promised to “personally” visit the ministry of education to seek its return. Enugu state SME Center supports 25,000 entrepreneurs

Funds were also provided to additional 800 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) same period by the Enugu State Small Medium Enterprises Center in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bank of Industry. Unemployment rate hits over 210m globally – ILO

Mr Luc Cortebeeck, Vice-President of Governing Body of ILO said this at the just concluded Training Course for Media Professionals on “Communicating Labour Rights” in the International Training Centre of the ILO. The training course, which was the first phase, was tagged face-to face that commenced on May 22 and ended May 27. “At the moment we are suffering an official unemployment rate of 210 million people and this means that by 2030 we need 600 million jobs extra for the future. “Because if you want to give dignity to people then, they need to have work, if you want to give protection and fight against poverty then we need work. “Work is a very important issue and governments need to provide more quality employment for its citizenry,” he said. Manchester attack probe: 14 people in detention

A teenage boy and a woman arrested by British police this week have since been released without charge, leaving 12 in British custody who were arrested “on suspicion of offences contrary to the terrorism act”. In Libya, the father and brother of the bomber, Salman Abedi, are also in detention. Abedi reportedly returned from Libya only a few days before the attack which killed 22 people, including seven children under 18, but police are still trying to establish the extent of his wider network.
