As Nigerians await the CCT’s decision

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Perhaps, the biggest wrong step of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, at the inception of the present administration, was its seeming inability to appreciate the dynamism of the constitutional provisions guiding separation of powers among the three arms of the government namely, the executive, the legislature and the judiciary under a democratic system. With the high hopes of Nigerians in 2015 that the new government formed by a new political party will take our democracy to the next level with improvement in its practice, as being done in the advanced countries, the new government painfully took off with unprecedented animosity against some individuals in its fold on parochial issues that ordinarily; would have been resolved at the party level, and thus, prevented such animosity from snowballing into crisis or getting out of its control. Aggressions rather than love, became the order of the day and were freely transferred in various forms and ways again...

He that shall receive from the Lord (I) by Lazarus Muoka

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Lazarus Muoka P salm 24:1-5 says, “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell there-in; For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” Beloved, it is one thing to ask blessing and favour from God but it is another thing to receive from God. This is because our state of righteousness as at the time we are expecting answer from God will to a large extent determine the degree and promptness of the answer we will receive from God. Our attitude while waiting for God’s answer can mar our chanc-es of receiving an answer as we expected. That is why the Psalmist is asking who is qualified to receive God’s bless-ing. ...

Re: Who will protect Nigeria’s Northern Christians?

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Donu Kobgara A n article written by Douglas Murray, a British think-tank director, was published on this page last week. Titled “Who Will Protect Nigeria’s Northern Christians?”, the article claimed that Northern Christians are enduring terrible suffering at the hands of Muslims and accused various groups of actively colluding with the herdsmen or of simply ignoring their embattled victims. An excerpt: The international community pretends that this situation is a tit-for-tat problem, rather than a one-sided slaughter. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the press fails to report or actively obscures the situation. Christians in the south of the country feel little solidarity with their co-religionists suffering from this Islamic revivalism and territorial conquest in the north. And worst of all, the plight of these people is of no interest to their own government. In fact, this ethnic and religious cleansing appears to be taking place with that government’s complicity or...

Osinbajo to sign 2017 budget, as Presidency, NASS reach agreement

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor ABUJA— After three days of stormy deliberations over the belated 2017 budget, the Presidency and the National Assembly, NASS, have resolved all the grey areas that prevented the President from assenting to the Appropriation Bill passed into law by the legislature last month. A top Presidency source confirmed to Vanguard, last night, that the major areas of disagreement had been resolved by the two sides, paving the way for the President to assent to the bill, which is already six month late in coming and holding back major financial transactions of the government. As a result of the deal struck by both parties, there were indications that the President would assent to the bill before the end of this week, although the presidential source simply said:  “We will sign it soon,” declining to specify the date and time. The meetings by the Presidency and the leadership of the NASS took place on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday ...

In a preliminary report published late on Wednesday, the investigators did not say who they held responsible for the hack but said that both Britain and the United States were helping with their inquiry. The comments attributed to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on incendiary issues such as Israel, Iran and Palestinian Islamist group Hamas were one of the re...

Image
http://ift.tt/2rqcUx2 "North Korea fired an unidentified projectile at Pukchang, South Pyongan province in the afternoon today," the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.<br /> North Korea fired off an “unidentified projectile” Sunday according to South Korean defence officials, a week after its latest missile launch. “North Korea fired an unidentified projectile at Pukchang, South Pyongan province in the afternoon today,” the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. There was no further information given about the nature of the projectile. Last week Pyongyang launched an intermediate-range missile named the Hwasong-12 its longest-range missile yet, according to analysts. It was its 10th launch this year, after dozens in 2016, as it accelerates efforts to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the continental United States — something President Donald Trump has vowed “won’t ...

ISIS is surrounded, there’s no escape – Mattis

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The military campaign of Coalition of Countries Working to Defeat ISIS has surrounded the terrorist group with no way for its fighters to escape, U.S. Secretary of Defence James Mattis said. Mattis said the onslaught approved by President Donald Trump would defeat the terror group and crush the idea that ‘ISIS is invincible’, according to the Department of Defence. “Thanks to the leadership and authorities granted by President Trump, thanks to the spirit of dozens of nations committed to this fight, thanks to the nations whose troops have gone toe-to-toe with this terrorist group. “We have retaken over 55 per cent of ISIS territory there in the core. Over four million people have been liberated and not one inch of territory seized from ISIS has been recaptured by them. “Soon after taking office in January, Trump ordered a review of the effort against ISIS. Two changes came from that review: “Delegation of authority to lower command levels, and the president d...
