Also, the government has deployed the first tranche of 100 delegates from a total of 1,000 for training at the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State. Vanguard gathered that the training is to explore the diverse business opportunities in the rich cultural heritage of African societies with particular emphasis on the peculiarity of the Niger Delta eco-system for tourism. Addressing the graduates, Mr. Smart Nkem, who represented the Executive Secretary of the Board, congratulated the graduates urging them to be good ambassadors of the institution; “Put into practice what you have learnt. I assure you of the state government’s support towards assisting you with starter packs.” Similarly, the Director of Training and Programs, Technical and Vocational Education Board Asaba, Mr. Goodnews Agbogidi, said the ceremony is a welcome development as he implored parents, students and staff to be fully involved in promoting the vocational centre. The foundation which offers relief to the needy, has reached out to five-year-old, Adegboye Daniel an accident victim whose parents could not pay his medical bills. Showing appreciation to the foundation, Medical Director, Dr O.O Odunbi, through B.A Ayidina, thanked the foundation for offsetting Daniel’s bill which his parents had tried to pay to no avail. Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Abdulai Kai Kai, who disclosed at a briefing on the 2017 Children’s Day celebration, said: “According to the findings of the 2014 Nigeria Violence Against Children Survey conducted by the National Population Commission with the support of the United States Centre for Disease Control and UNICEF, there is a high prevalence of violence against children in all the states in Nigeria.” According to him, it had been observed that approximately six out of 10 children experienced some form of violence and 50 percent of all children in Nigeria experienced physical violence. The union, in a statement by its General Secretary, Joseph Ogbebor, described the arrangement as faulty, lacking in transparency and not involving other stakeholders, especially the two oil workers unions, NUPENG and Petroleum and Natural General Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN. The union advised the Federal Government against the takeover bid by Oando, warning that it would resist it, if it found out it would lead to job losses. The Executive Director, Commercial, NASCON Allied Industries, Fatima Dangote, stated this in a chat with journalists in Lagos. The company recorded a turnover of N18.29 billion, representing a 13 per cent increase over the N16.18 billion in the previous year. Profit after tax increased by 15 per cent from N2.11 billion in 2015 to N2.42 billion, while earnings per share also increased from 79 kobo to 91 kobo. As a sign of stability, the company has N2.45 billion in cash reserves for the year under review.
