http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Next time you’re at the airport, you can pick them out to pass time and keep yourself occupied while waiting to board the plane. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 types of people you meet at the airport. The First Time Flyers They typically get swept off in the enthusiasm of their first flight experience. They are sometimes clueless about certain aspects relating to the flight (which is fine, since it’s their first time and we’ve all been there) and they sometimes have a lot of questions to ask. Some also tend to get excited about random events relating to the flight. They may or may not get scared or hysterical at every turbulence and they’re the only people paying attention when there’s a safety briefing on the plane. The Late People They are those who are never on time for a flight, whose names are constantly being announced a few minutes before departure. http://ift.tt/2prCKwi Minister of State for Environment Ibrahim Jibril says Nigeria has become a dumping ground for inferior, substandard, expired and poisonous foods and feeds from countries across the globe. The minister said this on Monday in Abuja at a workshop organised by National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) and Program for Biosafety Systems (PBS) to stimulate the collaboration of regulatory agencies. He, however, noted that there might be some machinations by some affluent nations to keep Nigeria a food-dependent nation perpetually. “Nigeria has been marginalised and ostracised by many rich nations in the European Union which suspended some of our agricultural products, citing high volume of dichlorvos pesticide as its reason. “This is a reflection of our inability to adhere to global standards, which has come to hunt us at the international level. “And I made bold to say that we — the regulatory Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) — all contributed ou...

http://ift.tt/2qhNIst Several hundred ex-rebels block access to Bouake, their former stronghold in central Ivory Coast, on May 8, 2017 to press pay demands after a mutiny in January that led to a deal. / AFP PHOTO / STR Several hundred ex-rebels on Monday blocked access to Ivory Coast’s second city Bouake, their former stronghold, seeking thousands of euros in bonuses in line with a deal following a deadly January mutiny. Security forces were deployed to monitor the upheaval, which caused a tailback of about 100 vehicles outside the main southern entrance to the city, but the former rebels started letting cars in in the afternoon as they began negotiations with local authorities. Most shops in the city, a commercial and transport hub in the centre of the west African country, however remained closed. Unlike the mutineers who caused trouble in several towns, Monday’s protesters have not been integrated into the army and carried no weapons. They are known locally as “the demo...

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Pope Francis on Sunday made a heartfelt appeal for “negotiated solutions” to end the violence in crisis-torn Venezuela for the sake of an “exhausted population”. “Dramatic news on the worsening of the situation in Venezuela keeps coming in with numerous deaths, injuries and prisoners,” the pontiff said before a 70,000 crowd attending weekly prayers in Saint Peter’s Square. “United in sorrow with the families of the victims… I issue a sincere appeal to the government and all sectors of Venezuelan society to avoid all forms of violence henceforward,” said the pontiff. The pope urged respect for human rights in a country riven by social conflict and “negotiated solutions to a grave humanitarian, social, political and economic crisis wearing down the populace”. Francis prayed for “peace, reconciliation and democracy” in what he termed a “beloved” nation. Returning overnight from a visit to Egypt, he had said the Holy See was willing to act as an intermediary...
