200 injured in Juventus fans panic after bomb scare – police

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J A bomb scare triggered panic among Juventus fans assembled to watch the Champions League final in Turin on Saturday, leaving some 200 supporters injured, according to local police. AFP reporters at the scene said chaotic scenes ensued ten minutes before the end of the match, apparently triggered by fireworks being let off and one or more people shouting that a bomb had gone off. That was enough to trigger a stampede out of the city’s Piazza San Carlo, in which the injuries occurred. The incident compounded a miserable night for supporters of Juventus, who lost the Cardiff final 4-1 to Real Madrid. The square was evacuated so quickly it was left strewn with sneakers ripped off people’s feet as they ran. “The root cause of this was panic, to understand what triggered it we will have to wait a while,” said top local official Renato Saccone, the prefect of Turin. Police said some 200 people had needed hospital treatment with two of them in a serious condition. S...

This toy boy is all the tonic I need!

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Dear Bunmi, I have been married for years and have three children amongst whom is a daughter who is in her twenties. Recently, my daughter’s boyfriend came to visit with his elder brother. When I ran into this elder brother a few weeks after the visit, I was struggling to fix my car and he was very helpful. He came back the next day to find out how the car was and I invited him in. Since then, we’ve been lover and the relationship has taken years off my age. He’s years younger than I am, but who cares? Knowing him is better than taking any rejuvenating tonic. My problem now is that my daughter and husband should not find out. Please don’t tell me to give him up for the sake of my marriage. I’ve tried hard to do that and I can’t. How do I deal with this? Serah, by e-mail. Dear Serah, Affairs very often demand self-deception. You believe that, in the same way as an addict, you are unable to abandon this lover. Also because he is younger, virile and handsome...

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J PROFITS at Google parent Alphabet increased 28 percentyear-on-year to $5.4 billion, boosted by advertising on mobile phones and the popular YouTube video service. Amazon profits climbed more than 40 percent, to $724 million. It was its eighth quarter in a row of profit. Microsoft also had a strong quarter, with profits up nearly 28 percent, while chipmaker Intel’s profits rose 45 percent. Amazon said its growth was propelled by sales for web services and retail subscriptions, such as Amazon Prime. The firm highlighted its international activity, noting expansion in India, Mexico and the UK. But executives told investors that more spending on content, products and warehouses for distribution lies ahead. “Although Amazon’s sales advanced by a respectable 23 percent over the quarter, the pace of growth at the online behemoth remains much slower than it was over most of the prior fiscal year,” said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail. “Some of th...

Finally, Eze goes home from school

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Prisca Sam-Duru   E ze Goes to School,  co-authored by Onuora Nzekwu and Micheal Crowder remains one of those classical master pieces by pioneer African writers that may never outlive their relevance in the society. The legendary work according to Nzekwu before his last days on earth, was born out of the dire need to write a book that focused on the education of children. It’s clear that Onuora Nzekwu’s generation sincerely imagined a society enhanced by education which is in sharp contrast of what is obtainable today. The positive impact of the book has never waned which is reason till date it’s one of the recommended text books in the secondary school. Interestingly, 60 years after the book was written, millions  of children in West Africa have read the book and would identify with the protagonist, Eze. Surprisingly and sadly too, the obstacles he went through in an effort to get education are still being experienced by some children in th...
