Osoba, Akala, Ashafa, others mourn Obanikoro’s mother

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Monsuru Olowoopejo Alhaja Wosilat Ejide, the mother of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, died in the early hours of yesterday, aged 95. The deceased was buried according to Islamic rites at Ikoyi Vaults and Garden, Lagos State. A former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Alao Akala, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, and the Deputy Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Wasiu Eshinlokun, were among  dignitaries present at the burial ceremony. Worship for Change raises over N3 million support for Lagos-based charity

Pete Edochie’s community fingers police in turmoil over land dispute

So far, five persons had been killed and at the last count, about 31 persons from the area were awaiting trial at the prison custody. The latest incident in the town was the arrest of 18 persons from the area by stern-looking policemen from the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Abuja. Among the latest victims is Pete Edochie’s brother, Chief Ikechukwu Edochie, a 70 year-old man, who was bundled into a police vehicle on his way to church and no member of his family has been able to communicate with him since the incident took place over a week ago. Epe kidnap: Militants reduce ransom to N100m

It will be recalled that the students were abducted last Thursday and have since been held hostage at the kidnappers den owing to their  parents inability to meet up with the N400 million ransom earlier demanded for their release. Vanguard gathered that two of the parents were contacted at about 6pm and 7.30pm respectively, by the kidnappers yesterday,informing them of the reduction of ransom to N100 million. The caller was said to have advised the parents to reach others and deliberate on how to raise the N100 million, adding also that they should mount pressure on the state government to raise the money for them. Consequently, five suspected members of the gang who had gone to survey the terrain, Tuesday, were arrested.    Among them was a private guard attached to one of the targeted   banks. The   security man   in one of the targeted   banks , was alleged to have initiated the deal to the militants. John St. Michael Olusoji Simpson who was born April 8, 1939 mysteriously disappeared in Lagos on August 8, 1974  at  age 35. Soji reportedly wrote 81 poems in all. Seven of these when he was at the Baptist Academy (1955-59) for his secondary education. He wrote 17 more poems at the Kings College (1960-61) when he went for his Higher School Certificate. The poet was said to have written the other 56 poems between 1962 and 1964, after which he devoted his later years to the writing of plays which were performed by Neighbourhood Players, a drama group he formed. Confirming this to the media in Lagos, spokesman of the Tin Can Port Command, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, said that a circular has been issued from the customs headquarters to all commands for the constitution of the ‘auction committees’. He also said that the online auction to be commenced by the Service is not open to customs officers and their family members. Ejesieme said that the duty of the auction committees is to compile the list of cargo seized at their command and forward it to the headquarters.
