13 Ondo PDP Assembly members defect to APC in 3 months

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Dayo Johnson Akure—THIRTEEN members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ondo state House of Assembly have defected to the ruling All Progressive Party APC barely three months after change in government of the state. During the tenure of former governor Olusegun Mimiko, the PDP had 21 members as against APC five members. But within three months of the present administration, 13 members of PDP have jumped ship  to join the five shooting the number of APC lawmakers to 18 and depleting the opposition to eight. Amongst the 13 decampees are the five that defected yesterday in Akure and we’re received  by the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN and top government officials. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Daud Olatunji ABEOKUTA—The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has vowed that the command would deploy all its arsenal towards ensuring that the killers of a Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abdulsalam Yusuf, his wife and four children were arrested. The commissioner who said this in Atiba, Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state, yesterday, shortly after paying condolence visit to the family of the victims, promised that the command would not relent in its efforts to unravel the mystery behind the cause of total elimination of a whole family. The names of the slain children were given as Latifat Yusuf, 10, Ramat Yusuf, 2, and the two set of twins, Hamad Yusuf and Muhammad Yusuf, both 8 years old. WCC declares Sunday, Global Day of Prayer to End Famine

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Sam Eyoboka LAGOS — THE World Council of Churches, WCC, has declared Sunday, a global day of prayer to end famine and save over billion people in South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, and Yemen, who are on the brink of famine. According to a recent United Nations’ finding, the worst famine since World War II was in progress in Africa, noting that harvests have failed. Famine has been declared by the United Nations in South Sudan, while Somalia, Nigeria, and Yemen, which the world body noted were on the brink of famine. The WCC is, therefore, calling on all its 348 member churches in collaboration with the All Africa Conference of Churches, AACC, and more than 100 faith-based organisations across the continent to join in the Global Day of Prayer to End Famine on Sunday. Imo pensioners reject plot to slash pension by 50%

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Chidi Nkwopara OWERRI — Imo State Council of Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, rose from an emergency meeting, weekend, in Owerri, unanimously rejecting the state government’s move to slash the monthly stipends of retirees by 50 percent. The pensioners hinged their decision on what they termed “another vexatious form designed and printed by the state government, which pensioners are compelled to sign.” According to the aggrieved senior citizens, “the state government designed a form, directing pensioners to sign an undertaking that only 50 per cent monthly pension would be paid them” by the administration. Moving the motion earlier, state Secretary of Imo State Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries, Chief Fabian Agba, described government’s treatment of retirees as “a gross exhibition of lawlessness, especially as pension matters, salaries and wages are in the exclusive list of the Nigerian Constitution as amended.” It was his candid view that it w...

Their bodies have been deposited at the Oji River General Hospital mortuary. It was gathered that  a Mercedes Benz lorry 911, with number plates AA 40 BRR, rammed into the family’s motorcycle on Amaetiti Oji River Bridge, along Oji River-Awka Old Road.
