Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Tony Nwankwo, with agency reports Hackers using malware “stolen from the NSA” crippled 45 National Health Service, NHS, trusts in Britain and caused disruption across at least 45,000 computer networks in 99 countries in an unprecedented global attack at the weekend. The tools used to carry out the hack – dubbed a superweapon – are thought to be a surveillance tool developed by the US’s National Security Agency (NSA) to spy on terrorists and enemy states. The “exploit”, called EternalBlue, was stolen and dumped online by the  sinister Shadow Brokers last month. The ransomware hit Telefonica – the owner of O2 – and other huge organisations in Spain. Nissan’s Sunderland plant was hit by the attack, while Renault confirmed its French sites had been forced to cease production. Italy, Portugal, Russia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Taiwan were among the countries hit. Intelligence services in Romania said they intercepted an attempted cyber attack on a governmen...

FG bans MDAs from transacting business with unregistered companies

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The Federal Government has, Friday, banned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) from transacting business with companies and other corporate bodies that are not duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC. Mr Salisu Dambatta, the Director of information, Federal Ministry of Finance, said in a statement in Abuja that the directive to this effect had been issued to MDAs in a circular by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. He said that the directive was aimed at protecting MDAs from entering contractual obligations with fake or unregistered companies. Dambatta said that the minister of finance would not honour payments for contracts by companies that did not comply with the requirements. “For companies and other corporate bodies to qualify for business transactions with MDAs, their letterhead must bear the Registration Number (RC) as issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission. “The letter head must also have conta...

Herrera says fans can fire Man Utd to final

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Ander Herrera wants Manchester United’s supporters to turn Old Trafford into a cauldron when his side look to complete victory over Celta Vigo in Thursday’s Europa League semi-final return leg. Marcus Rashford’s sweet second-half free-kick brought United a 1-0 win in last week’s first leg, putting Jose Mourinho’s side within touching distance of the final in Stockholm on May 24. But although United have gone 17 European home games without defeat, Celta have scored in all six of their Europa League away matches this season and Herrera says everyone in United red will have to be on their game. “They have scored away in every game they’ve played in the competition so we have to be aware of that,” the Spanish midfielder said. “They are a very good team, very dangerous when they play away and we will need our fans at home. “I tell them we really need them to create a good atmosphere, a difficult atmosphere for the opponents, who can push us to be in the final. It’...

FIFA to investigate Pogba’s world-record Man Utd transfer

Image
http://ift.tt/2p4d9Me Manchester United's French midfielder Paul Pogba / AFP PHOTO / OLI SCARFF / FIFA are to investigate the world-record transfer of Paul Pogba to Manchester United, a source at world football’s governing body told AFP on Tuesday. French midfielder Pogba was transferred for more than £89.3 million ($111 million, 105.2 million euros) in August 2016 from Italian club Juventus. Confirmation of the investigation came after French media reports said FIFA had opened an inquiry. It is not yet clear what aspect of the transfer FIFA is investigating. Pogba, 24, started his career with the English club but made just three appearances in the Premier League before heading to Italy, after an apparent falling out with then manager Alex Ferguson. He flourished in Serie A, winning four league titles with Juventus between 2012 and 2016. Pogba also appeared in the 2015 Champions League final, which Juventus lost 3-1 to Barcelona. At the same time, the powerful midfi...

By any means necessary

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Muhammed Adamu When the moment comes either the Cortes (Spanish legislature) will submit or we shall make it disappear — Jose Maria Gil Robles’, Spanish politician. THE right of Nigerians to  picket or to occupy the National Assembly may be legitimate, founded either in constitutional or human rights law -or in both. But the right of the people, forcefully to evict members of the National Assembly, or even to shut and to abolish for good that arm of government or any part thereof, is a revolutionary one and it is exercisable by the people without regard to existing laws which, by the way are laws the people themselves had made -or permitted to be made to govern their affairs. Gradually the capacity of Nigerians to harness their pockets of individual discontent into a hot bowl of collective majoritarian anger is gradually gathering the necessary democratic momentum. For too long we have maintained a reputation only for mouthing revolutionary hogwash. The ...
