http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Nwafor Sunday Owing to the quit notice threat issued Igbo in the northern part of the country by the Coalition of Northern Youths, (CNY), Vanguard gathered that Igbo are likely not to comply because of the following reasons: 1. Federal government is not in support of the given threat and as such the national assembly has warned people seeking for the division of the country to desist from such act. According to the Senate President Bukola Saraki, “the Senate must stand for a non negotiable and united Nigeria, and that unity and peace were key issues that must be guaranteed for any meaningful development to take place. “We must stand clearly and act clearly to defend this country. The unity of this country is not negotiable” Saraki said. Also, the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Sen. George Akume, said the senate must rise up to make a statement condemning the various agitations in parts of the country. He said if the senate kept quiet in the face of t...

Edo Govt. to curtail menace of herdsmen

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Sunday said his administration was working out measures to curtail the menace of Fulani herdsmen in the state. A week ago, some cattle gained access to classrooms at Ohovbe Primary School at Ikpoba-Okha Local Council of the state. The pupils were said to have stayed outside for about one hour before the herdsman came to take the cattle out. Obaseki made the disclosure on the sidelines of a thanksgiving service at the Christ Embassy Church in Benin for his victory at the appeal Court. He promised that the state government would build fence around schools in the state to address the indiscriminate grazing of cattle in Schools’ premises. Obaseki ascribed his election as Governor of Edo to the Grace of God upon his life, adding that he would capitalise on that to develop the state. In his sermon, the Rev. Ekweremadu: Police docks whistle-blower for giving false information, remanded in prison

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA- A whistle-blower, Mr. Ahmed Echoda has landed himself in trouble after he allegedly gave wrong information that led the Nigerian Police Force to raid the Abuja home of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. Echoda, who is 50 years old, was arraigned before an Upper Area Court sitting at the Gudu District of Abuja on Tuesday, and was subsequently remanded in Keffi Prison. Chief Magistrate Umar Kagarko ordered that he should remain in prison custody till June 5 when his bail request will be considered. The defendant is facing a one count charge of criminal conspiracy and giving false information to mislead the police, contrary to section 97(1) and 140 of the Penal Code Law. His trial was endorsed by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris. Police told the court that Echoda’s alleged accomplice, identified as Maiwada Adamu, is currently at large.
