Political thugs go into hiding in Adamawa to evade arrest

The thugs, who were a permanent feature in government offices and political gatherings have melted away after a few of them were arrested for defacing Gov. Muhammadu Bindow billboards. The thugs had reportedly destroyed the billboards erected to showcase the governor’s achievements, when they barred from entering the Government House for events organised to mark Democracy Day. The incident prompted the police to arrest the ringleaders while other thugs went underground. “We are being arrested by the police and one has to stay away for things to cool down; some of us who have no godfather have left town for now,” said one of the thugs who spoke under condition of anonymity. The confirmation followed the report of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC screening of 15 Nominees for Appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners by the Chairman, Senator Suleiman Nazif, APC, Bauchi North. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J A housewife, Mrs Kemi Joshua, 30, was on Wednesday brought before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving two stolen pigs valued at N100,000. The Police prosecutor, Sgt. Adeoye Adesegun, told the court that the accused conspired with her husband, Joshua, who is still at large, to commit the offences. “Kemi unlawfully received two female pigs valued at N100, 000, property of one Omokaro Ilesanmi, which she knew to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained,’’  Adesegun said. The prosecutor alleged that the accused person committed the offences on May 21, 2017 at about 12:30 a.m. at Odopo Quarters, Ijoka, Akure. According to him, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 516 and 247 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. Activities paralysed in Southeast as groups commemorate Biafra

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) had declared May 30 a public holiday for their supporters to commemorate 50 years of the declaration of Biafra. They also said they wanted to remember those who died in the Nigerian civil war fought between Nigerian troops and rebel Biafra forces. Correspondents of the Newsmen reported that markets, schools, government and private offices were shut in obedience to the call.
