The 30-year-old Bolt leaped out of the blocks and cruised to victory in a time of 10.03, well below his world record time but good enough to beat a solid field. “I don’t think I have ever been that nervous to run the 100 metres,” said Bolt, who is retiring in August following the World Championships. “Just the atmosphere and the people. DESOPADEC urges youths to shun violence

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Mr Philip Gbasin, Executive Director, Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has advised the Niger Delta Youths to shun all form of vices to attract and sustain development in the region. Gbasin gave the advise in an interview with the Newsmen in Warri on Sunday. He said that almost all the oil companies in the region have relocated because of the unpleasant attitude of the people in the area. “The passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) will not automatically create the needed attractions for investors nor translate into the development of the region unless the people embrace positive transformation,’’ he said. He urged the State Governments in the region to deal with these vices, particularly in the area of touting, where people have to pay touts to build or renovate their houses in these areas. NGO urges parents in IDPs camps to enroll children in school

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J A Non-Governmental Organisation, Out of School Children Initiative in Nigeria (OSCIN), has appealed to parents in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps to return their children to school to secure their future. Mrs Patience Uhunamure, Founder of the NGO, made the appeal during an official handover of school materials and food items to IDPs camp in New Kuchingoro in Abuja on Saturday. Uhunamure said the objective of the initiative was to enroll children that were not in school and to encourage parents to take the education of their wards serious. She urged the children to take the likes of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as their role model. He assured that the bill would be signed next week. Dogara stated this in his address at the opening of a “Special Session’’ to mark the second anniversary of the 8th Assembly on Friday in Abuja. According to him, the house carried out significant budget reforms “for the first time in the history of Nigeria’’. He said that a public hearing was conducted at the National Assembly to get the input of Nigerians in the budgetary process. He said that reforms introduced included the details of the Appropriation Bill being made available to all members before passage at the plenary. Nigerians give 8th National Assembly pass mark

Many said in interviews with the Newsmen  in Abuja on Friday that in spite of the leadership challenges that plagued the assembly at the beginning, its actions had been commendable. The speakers listed some of the achievements of National Assembly as the passage of Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB), publication of its annual budget as well as campaign for patronage for made in Nigeria goods. They also noted that the 8th Senate had passed 96 bills compared to the 7th Senate’s passage of 28 bills in two years, 6th Senate’s 23 bills and 5th Senate’s  65 bills. The 8th Senate has cleared 72 petitions in two years compared to the 7th Senate’s six petitions: 6th Senate’s six and the  5th Senate’s which record is unknown, the respondents added.
