A penalty in the shopping-search probe could come within weeks and many expect it to exceed a $1.2 billion fine on Intel Corp. in 2009. That would be another show of strength by EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager who slapped Apple Inc. with a 13 billion-euro ($14.5 billion) tax bill in August. Google is a top priority case for her as European politicians and publishers push for action against the Mountain View, California-based company that’s come to dominate online advertising. “If there’s going to be a fine, it has to be the biggest ev...

Living for others – Part 5

Image
http://ift.tt/2pkP2d8 Rev. Emmanuel O.S. Okereke For example, let John please Peter, and not himself. Let Pastor Phina pleases sister Joy and not herself, etc. That thing that pleases you, also please another person with it; that thing you feel comforts you, also comfort another with it; that thing that looks good on you can also look good on somebody else. Why would you give somebody cheap perfume, when you do not wear such? Note: if you give a man a gift and he is not pleased, you do not have a reward, because the reward only comes, when the gift permeates into his heart and brings out a new aura in him or her; that is when the reward searches out the ‘giver.’ There is noting in life and nature that lives for itself alone. For instance, rivers do not drink their water, rather, they are made available for others to drink, quench their thirst and be satisfied. Trees do not eat their own fruits, just like the sun does not give heat to itself, but gives heat to other people. The fl...

Looters should be barred from running for office —S-Court judge

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J ABUJA— Supreme Court judge, Justice Kumai Bayang Aka’ahs, has said treasury looters should be barred from running for office for some years. He also advocated the use of plea-bargain in the fight against corruption, saying it will help the country’s economy. Speaking at the annual lecture of the International Dispute Resolution Institute, IDRI, in Abuja, Saturday, Aka’ahs said the approach would save the country a lot of money. He said: “I think in the long run, instead of having so many people behind bars, it will help our economy if they return what they have stolen. We can tell them to go and sin no more. Then if they repeat, they will be sanctioned. “Most of those who steal these funds do so because they want to run for governorship or such other positions. If they know that they will be barred for some time, they will be deterred. I think we need a wider understanding of the concept of plea bargaining,” said Mr. Aka’ahs. Speaking at the event, Lindsay J...
