Robbers assault, rob busload of policemen

The National Security Commission reports that the bus was carrying 29 unarmed officers dressed in civilian clothes Monday night to Mexico City, where they were to be on leave after 25 straight days on duty in the Pacific resort city of Acapulco. The commission says the driver pulled over to check a mechanical problem near a toll booth in the state of Morelos. Armed men then boarded the bus, threatened him and the passengers and relieved them of their possessions. A statement late Thursday says the officers did not resist in order to avoid injuries or loss of life. Authorities are searching for the robbers. Ngige told newsmen in Abuja that the 16- man Technical Committee on Minimum Wage and Palliatives had submitted its report to the main committee, headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF. “This report have being adopted just last week by the 29 -man joint committee. “So, the report is now being taken to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval next week and then the Acting President will constitute a National Minimum Wage Review Committee. “This National Minimum Wage Review Committee will then fix a new minimum wage for the country. “It has become imperative for a new minimum wage, because the last minimum wage has a life span of five years – it was signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan- and it elapsed by Aug. 2016,” he said...

The women who were drawn from Akwa/Ibom, Cross rivers, Imo, Enugu, Anambra and other south-south and south-east states protested topless to the palace of the Igwe, complaining that the soldiers disrupted their peaceful assembly. The Igwe who received them assured them that he would see that the situation was resolved. The Igwe who after asking the protesting women if they touched or abused the soldiers and was told no however condemned the act and asked the women to go home while he resolved the issue. DSP Joseph Alabi, the spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command confirmed the development to newsmen in Lagos. Alabi said the deportees, who are all men,  landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 3.30pm. He said they were brought back to Nigeria aboard a South African Airways aircraft with registration number BBB712 from Johannesburg. “This afternoon, about 3.30pm, 90 Nigerians were deported from South Africa for committing immigration-related offences. “Some of them were alleged to have been living in the country without valid documents. “They were received by the appropriate agencies including the police and profiled before being allowed to depart to their respective destinations, ” Alabi said. Ross entered the Guinness Book of Records aged 18 when he scored three times in 90 seconds playing for Ross County against Nairn County on November 24, 1964. Ross — who earned a move to England playing for Peterborough, York and Wigan Athletic when the latter were a non league outfit — scored 44 goals in the 1964-65 season. In retirement he set up a construction company with his brothers and also worked in the North Sea oil and gas industry. Tain St Duthus issued a statement saying everyone at the club “extend their deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to Tommy’s family and close friends at this difficult time”.
