http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Perez Brisibe & Paul Olayemi O GHARA — LECTURERS in the three polytechnics in Delta State, under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, have begun an indefinite strike action over unresolved labour issues with the state government. The lectures are also accusing the state government of unduly dismissing the ASUP chairman of Delta State Polytechnic, Oghwashi-Uku, Tobechukwu Ogidi. The union, in a statement by the President and Public Relations Officer of the state polytechnic Otefe-Oghara, Collins Oniyemofe and Nyore Mowarin respectively, said: “The purpose of the strike is to drive home our demands with the state government over unresolved labour disputes. “At this latitude, the union has directed its members to withdraw their services.” The demands, according to the union, include the non- implementation of the Revised Scheme of Service for Polytechnics and other similar tertiary institutions in Nigeria and resumption of promotion fr...

Police kill 8 kidnappers, nab 21 in Delta

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Emma Amaize A SABA— THE Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, said police have killed eight suspected kidnappers, apprehended 21 and rescued seven victims  without payment of ransom in the last three weeks. Speaking to Vanguard in Asaba, Ibrahim said five kidnappers were shot dead by Police while trying to escape after other members of the kidnap syndicate laid ambush for a police team within Ebrumede/Ughelli area. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J T he Nigeria Olympic Committee and the IOC Olympic Solidarity are currently holding a technical course for athletics coaches at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. According to a signed statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NOC, Tony Ubani, the course, designed for coaches in athletics CEC Level 1 U16, is being facilitated by two resource persons, Ms Funmi Nutayi and Prof. Ezra Gunnen. Ms.Nutayi is a lecturer in the Department  of Human Kinetics of the University of Lagos while Prof. Ezra lectures in the Department of Human Kinetics at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Ubani quoted the course assistant, Ogazi Ekeoma Chinedum as saying that 24 persons were participating in the programme that ends on June 9th.
