Ibeku crisis lingers, as Ukaegbu faction reject peace settlement

Image
http://ift.tt/2rCtwCk By Anayo Okoli UMUAHIA—THE crisis rocking the leadership of Ibeku Community has deepened with the Princewill Ukaegbu faction of the Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association rejecting the peace settlement held last week by the Emeka Enyeazu group, saying that it was a farce. The Ukaegbu group insisted that it was the authentic elected leadership of Ibeku Egwu Asaa union and challenged the Enyeazu group to produce the certificate of incorporation and seal of the association to prove that it is recognized. The group said that what happened last week was not a peace meeting between the two camps but a reconciliation of the Paramount ruler of Ibeku Kingdom, Eze Samuel Onuoha (Ogurube IV) and some people he sanctioned for allegedly desecrating Ibeku Land. Rising from a meeting of what they called Ibeku Stakeholders, the group maintained that there was indeed no crisis in the leadership of the association, claiming that their leader, Ukaegbu, was the only legally elec...

His ex-wife still controls him

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Dear Bunmi, I met my husband five years ago when he was separated from his wife. As soon as his divorce went through, we got married and his 16-year-old son now lives with us. He rarely sees his mother and she seldom calls him. They also have a 17-year-old daughter who opted to live with her mother. I’ve always been pleasant to her when she calls, yet she refuses to meet me. Her brother accepts me, so why can’t she? I’ve lost the will to be nice to her. After her calls, my husband tells me what she’s been up to, but I can’t be bothered to show any interest. His ex-wife has now started to ring him more often. She always wants him to solve one problem or the other, especially about their daughter. She was the one who caused an end to the marriage. In a few weeks, the daughter will be IS and she’s made plans for an elaborate birthday party in her house. His ex and their daughter are always asking for money and my husband is too soft to say no, despite knowing how...

This break-up has left me feeling lethargic

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J DearBunmi, I broke up with my boyfriend early last year after a miserable period of the relationship virtually grinding to a halt. In the past, after a break-up, I always bounced back, but this time, I can’t-I’ve started to resent my job.and my flat suddenly feels lonely. I’ve lost interest in finding a replacement, yet I know I have to claw my way out of this depressing pit. I’m 34 and have some good friends. How can I get my life back? Saudat, by e-mail.   Dear Saudat, I’m afraid you’re in the thick of grieving for a lost love, which is natural. According to experts, there are four official break-up stages. Stage one is denial: when you know the relationship is over but you don’t admit it. Stage two is depression, as you realise it really is over. Stage three is anger, and finally stage four is acceptance, when you can sincerely wish your ex well, and start dating again. You’re at stage two. Just allow yourself to feel sad. You could spend your whol...

He cares more for his friends

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Dear Bunmi, I like spending my free time with my boyfriend of seven months, but he always makes excuses to go off doing other things. He prefers to help his friends with their problems than staying with me. If we do spend time together, his mind is not always there and he seems on edge. It’s as if I’m being punished for something. Do you think he still cares? Folakemi, by e-mail.   Dear Folakemi, You’re ignoring the obvious here – that your boyfriend simply isn’t as interested as you would want him to be. If he were, he would be more relaxed in your company than off it. And he wouldn’t find excuses for not spending his free time with you. You need to ask yourself the possibility of his seeing someone else – that would explain his being edgy. Plainly put, you may love him, but he doesn’t love you. So, however much this truth hurts, you’d be happier and more fulfilled without him. The post He cares more for his friends appeared first on Vanguard News ....

Still single at over 30

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J DearBunmi, I’m in my mid-30s, and just out of a relationship that I thought would have ended in marnage. Now I’m convinced that I might never marry and start a family. A few of my friends are in the same boat and one or two have opted for having children out of wedlock. I find myself jealous of younger women who are married with children. Will my time ever come? Irene, by e-mail.   Dear Irene, Following a major disappointment like you’ve currently experienced, you need to allow yourself time to feel sad, disillusioned and even angry. Don’t rush through these emotions because you think you need to hurry up and find another partner. Instead, use this post-break-up period to get your feelings in order. Reach out to your family and friends. Make sure you’re taking good care of yourself, eating well, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep. When you’re feeling reasonably stable and secure, sit down and re-examine your assumptions about marriage and it...

I think I gave him a wrong impression

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Dear Bunmi, A group of us from my university went to this hot party and I ended up going home with a very attractive man. We didn’t actually have sex, but we fooled around most of the night. The next morning, I woke up dying of embarrassment as I was totally naked in bed with this total stranger. Luckily, he was really sweet about the whole thing and we spent the morning talking. He turned out to be a real gentleman, so I gave him my number but I haven’t heard from him since. Is it because he’s written me off as a slut? Was that the reason why he didn’t have sex with me when he had all the opportunity to? Is there a way I can explain to him that I’m not normally like that and see if we can possibly start again? Appolonia, by e-mail.  Dear Appolonia, There is the good news here and the bad! So let’s get the bad stuff over with! You are right to think that this man isn’t calling because he thinks you are easy. It may be the first time you’ve ever done s...
