http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali, retired has assured stakeholders of adequate scanners at the ports as part of Federal Government’s effort to ensure conducive business environment. Ali gave the assurance on Wednesday in Lagos at a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on the implementation of the Executive Orders issued by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. “We realised that fast-tracking the Executive Orders required functional scanners which would subject all containers to examination. “Inadequate scanners will not facilitate trade but in a couple of months, adequate scanners will be available in various ports in the country,” Ali said. According to him, the service will engage in shift-duties for officers to work 24-hours to achieve the executive order and to also facilitate trade. Also speaking, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Pius Imue expressed commitment of th...

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The sense of loss in Newcastle at the death of Ivory Coast midfielder Cheick Tiote has been reflected by over 1,000 Newcastle United fans signing a petition to have his shirt number of 24 retired the BBC reported Wednesday. Tiote – who was a member of the Ivory Coast squad that ended a 23 year drought winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations — died on Monday after ‘suddenly fainting’ during a training session with his second tier Chinese club Beijing Enterprises. Tiote — who received many glowing tributes with former Newcastle manager Steve McClaren saying when he smiled one knew everything was good with the world — had only joined them in February after a seven year stay with Newcastle. The petition started on Tuesday by NUFC4Life on change.org quickly attracted over 1,000 signatures. “In the light of the legends death,” read the petition. “The shirt number should be retired in honour of his life. A Newcastle legend taken too soon. “Get your friends and famil...

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Jaiz bank has emerged the worst performing stock in percentage terms on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) for the month of May. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that data obtained from the exchange for the month of May indicated that the stock dropped by 17.39 per cent, to close at 95k per share, as against the opening price of N1.15. Mr Ambrose Omordion, the Chief Operating Officer, InvestData Ltd, linked the stock’s decline during the period to its nature of banking business that emphasised on profit sharing, rather than interest on loans, charged by commercial banks. Omordion stated that the bank’s unimpressive 2017 first quarter numbers released in the market recently, contributed to the price depreciation. NAN reports that the company on Feb. 9 joined the league of quoted companies on NSE with the listing by introduction of 29.46 billion shares of 50k each at N1.25 per share, worth N36.83 billion. http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Omeiza Ajayi ABUJA – Only one of the 82 recently ‘released’ Chibok girls has established contact with her parents, Vanguard has learned. Chairman of the Chibok community in Abuja, Hosea Tsambido told Vanguard in a telephone chat Wednesday night said Mr Bulus Yehi, who resides in Lagos was able to speak with her daughter via telephone. “Only one parent, a father, Mr Bulus Yehi, who stays in Lagos has been able to speak with her daughter on telephone”, Tsambido said. The Chibok community chairman also advised Mr Mustapha Zanna, a chief negotiator for the release of the girls to refrain from disclosing all he knows about the state of the girls in order not to put the families into further trauma. “Government should not hold to that statement whether it comes from the girls or not. Government should do the right thing by ensuring the release of the girls, including the one said to have preferred the option of staying with her Boko Haram husband. “Zanna should...

Image
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J The Kogi House of Assembly on Wednesday asked the State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA) and other relevant agencies to assess and remove all dangerous rocks and trees along roads across the state. This is contained in a resolution of the House following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance on the menacing rocks and trees moved by John Abah (APC-Ibaji) at plenary in Lokoja. Abah expressed concern that the unbalanced rocks and trees constituted great threat to motorists and passersby on the roads. The lawmaker recalled that last month a rainstorm uprooted a tree by hydro junction, Adankolo in Lokoja, killing five persons in a tricycle including a pregnant woman. Seconding the motion, Haruna Idoko Musa (APC-Idah) said government needed to take urgent steps to preventing further disasters, adding “a stitch in time saves nine”. Mr Aliyu Akuh (PDP-Omala) in his contribution said that the state Town Planning and Urban Development Board be made t...
