In my father’s business – Part 2

Image
http://ift.tt/2nQvhKt Ernest Onuoha What Does It Really Mean: In My Father’s Business? JESUS said He must be about His “Father’s business.” What was His Father’s business? When His parents found Him, He was “sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.” Jesus was in the Temple as a thoughtful learner, not as a teacher. When the rabbis taught, they asked a lot of questions. Students would answer and ask their own questions. It was very interactive. At the time, the business of the Father for Jesus was to be a learner. The Full nature of the Father business would become clearer later in the ministry of Jesus Jesus Himself made a strong and comprehensive declaration in the synagogue at Nazareth during His public ministry. He quoted from Isaiah 61:1-2, in Luke 4:18-19): “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the...

The audacity of colonialism

Image
http://ift.tt/2r6UJsY In an obscure French play the main character to be played by Mr. Trouble in his play-making days sits in his Paris garret bemoaning the name of his native city Brazzaville. He asks around who was Brazza and why was his place of birth named after him. He learnt that Monsieur Brazza was an Italian-born French explorer who died of dysentery in Dakar in 1905. He had ‘discovered’ the Congo for the French and so they named the capital after him Brazzaville. And says the entry under his name “and the name was retained by the post-colonial rulers”!!! The fellow in the play moaned that he had been exploring Paris for ten years and had almost died of hunger but nobody has named Paris after him! He then laments not just the audacity of the French colonialists who would give a new name to a place that was not their own but also he condemns the cowardice of the post-colonial African Congolese rulers who retained the name of Brazzaville. What, Trouble’s character screams, was...

Exposure to heavy metals increases risk of autism

Image
http://ift.tt/2qVWSGZ While it is not yet known what causes autism, researchers believe that a complex interaction between environmental factors and genetics is responsible for the condition. Separating these factors, however, can be a challenge. But a new study may have found a way to isolate genetics from environmental contributors to the disease, allowing researchers to focus on the link between heavy metal levels and autism risk. According to the latest data from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as many as 1 in 68 children in the United States have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A recent study explores a new factor that may contribute to the risk of developing ASD: the concentration of heavy metals in a child’s body. The new research was led by Manish Arora, Ph.D., an environmental scientist and dentist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, NY, and the findings were published in the journal Nature Communications. ...
