Lagos-based bizman in prison custody over fake products

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J By Innocent Anaba A   Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, remanded a Lagos-based businessman, Benson Maduka, in prison custody over alleged importation and sale of unregistered cosmetic products. Trial judge, Justice Abdulaziz Anka , ordered that Maduka be remanded after he was arraigned by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, on two-count charge of importing and selling fake cosmetic products. According to NAFDAC prosecutor, Umar Shamaki, the accused person imported unregistered lotion and whitener contrary to Section 1 (1) of the Food, Drug and Related Product Act and punishable under Section 6 (a) of the same Act. Maduka, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Justices Anka has adjourned the case till June 14 for the hearing of the accused person’s bail application and the commencement of trial. NEPC supports export logistics centre establishment in Lagos

The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr Olusegun Awolowo, has commended the management of Lilypond Container Terminal, Ijora for planning to establish the export processing and logistics facility at the terminal. Speaking at the opening ceremony of a conference themed: Provision of seamless logistics service as panacea for economic growth,” Awolowo, said that the government will support every effort that will reduce the cost of exportable Nigerian goods. Awolowo said that the government wants to sustain the progress so far recoded in the exportation of agricultural goods. Etisalat  in a statement, yesterday, further noted that it had not received any formal communication from the lenders regarding the proposal. Cocaine users risk unsafe sex — STUDY

It is no longer news that cocaine use has long been tied anedoctally to higher-than-usual rates of impulsive behaviour, including risky sex, but the tie-in has been difficult to study with any scientifically controlled rigor. Now, the research team knew that people who regularly use cocaine are more likely to have HIV or other sexually transmitted infections, STIs, and the study authors say their findings, published in Psychopharmacology, suggest “sexual impatience” as a likely explanation for the increased risk. 52 arrested in Benue for revenue, tax fraud

The suspects, who were nabbed in a special operation led by the Board Chairman, Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, also led to the recovery of fake tax and revenue booklets from the suspects most of whom impersonated officials of the BIRS and mounted several illegal road blocks across the state to extort unsuspecting road users and business persons. According to a statement by the Media Assistant to the Executive Chairman of the Board, Francis Terna, 16 persons were apprehended in Gboko Local Government Area, while five were nabbed at Zaki Biam in Ukum Local Government Area.
