Normalcy returns to Calabar after Police, Navy clash

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Normalcy has returned to Calabar after a gun duel between the Police and the Nigerian Navy in a part of the city on Tuesday. A police officer was shot and killed by naval personnel, while the police also shot and injured a naval officer on his shoulder during the clash on Tuesday night. Also, a section of the Akim Police barracks located along IBB Road, was destroyed by the naval men and some cars were equally burnt too. Gov. Ben Ayade who addressed newsmen after the State Security Council meeting on Wednesday, urged the citizens to go about their legitimate businesses as normalcy has returned to the affected area. Biafra: All South-East Govs must establish epitaphs to honour fallen heroes – Chief Ezeonwuka

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, an Igbo cultural leader, has said that there is nothing wrong in Biafrans remembering loved ones who lost their lives during the civil war. While commending Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state for establishing epitaphs to honour fallen Biafran heroes in January 2015, Chief Ezeonwuka also urged all other South East governors to do same by establishing epitaphs in their respective states in honour of Biafran fallen heroes. The traditional ruler however called for peaceful conduct by some Igbo youths wishing to remember victims of the Nigeria civil war on Tuesday. Ezeonwuka, the founder of Ogilisi Foundation, said in Awka on Monday that there was nothing wrong in remembering loved ones provided that such action was carried out peacefully. He attributed some vices and tension in the country to the yearnings of the souls of victims of bloodshed waiting to be appeased. He made the call while delivering a keynote address at a two-day conference in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of Kano state. NAN reports that the conference is part of the week-long activities organised by the state government to celebrate the anniversary. He said there was urgent need to encourage private investors to invest in the power sector with a view to promoting socio-economic activities of the people in the country.
