Osogbo – Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun says those responsible for the killing of policemen in bank robberies in Iwo town on Tuesday will not escape justice.

The governor, in a statement by Mr Semiu Okanlawon, his media aide on Wednesday in Osogbo described the incident as unfortunate.

He said he had been assured by security operatives that they were on the trail of the robbers.

According to him, government and the security forces will not abandon their responsibility of protecting the people just because of few criminals.

The governor promised that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with all those who committed the heinous act.

He commiserated with the State Commissioner of Police for the loss of his gallant officers in the service to their fatherland during the incident.

“We use this opportunity to assure the people of Osun of their safety.

“We invested in security of lives and property as part of our overall objectives of maintaining a peaceful state, to be a source of attraction for investments.

“This is why our state has been rated many times as one of the states with the lowest cases of crime throughout Nigeria.

“We are determined to do everything to sustain this rating.

” Our citizens are therefore urged to be vigilant; report any suspicious movement and activity to the law enforcement agencies.”

The armed robbers on Tuesday killed four policemen in multiple bank robberies in Iwo town.

The attacks, which were targeted at three banks on Bowen University Road, Iwo, were carried out in the afternoon.

Confirming the attacks, the police spokesperson, Mr. Folashade Odoro, said four policemen lost their lives in the incident.
